"Et un globe oculaire."

So since I got the Avengers Blu-Ray/DVD combo on Tuesday, I have watched:
-The Avengers in English.
-The Avengers in English as I joined in the community liveblogging over on
be_compromised.
-The Avengers in English with the S.O., with full permission to riff on it--if we could. We knew that probably wasn't going to happen, as it's darned hard to riff something that's funny in the first place. After one half-hearted, "Bring worms," in response to, "The Hawk? In his nest," I pretty much gave up trying to be humorous and we mostly just chorused our favorite lines with the film ("Then put it on the left!"). I also made a point of freezing the film at 38 min. 50 sec. on the pretext of "Hey, let's have cake! While the screen just...sits here. And I...stare at it. While I eat cake." The S.O. indulges me shamefully. Good times.
-The Avengers in French (partly with the S.O.). That was a whole different brand of fun! My French is quite limited, but enough to catch some of the lines and enjoy hearing how they translated ("Juste douze pour cent c'est mon bébé?"). Riffing is more entertaining that way too; every lame "Votre père smelt of elderberries!" joke gets giggles. Great voice casting, too. French Loki has a particularly great timbre. French Tony (while awesome) gets the deep sexy voice that I would have thought French Nick Fury would have got.
-I have not watched any of the Blu-Ray features because I don't have a Blu-Ray player. Grr. Well, at least most of those leaked to the net last month.
-I've seen nearly all of The Avengers Second Screen experience app. (Turns out you don't need a Blu-Ray to sync it; it sound synced quite easily off the DVD.) There are still glitches with some of the video and storyboard frames, but, man, the behind-the-scenes trivia and CGI effect tech are a fan's dream, and I am just making squealy toddlerfists hoping someone is able to upload the "Stunt team enacts the entire fight scene" videos for everyone to experience. They're terrific.
Still haven't let myself wath the Joss Whedon commentary track. I'm pretty sure, based on the few bits I've heard about, that when I do watch it I'll need a box of tissues at my side 'cos I'll be crying with fangirl feels all the way through.
And since you were probably wondering--and as it doubles for an edition of JR: PLR--this is the image at 38 min. 50 sec.

Excuse me while I eat cake.

Date: 2012-09-29 01:47 pm (UTC)The S.O. had a few good ones but we really had more success with the French dub. "Mozhairfuckeeng snakes sur zis mozhairfuckeeng 'elicarriaire..."

Date: 2012-09-29 03:51 am (UTC)This is so much Clint Barton/Loki! It's like, they're so synchronised, so perfectly timed.
I had no idea that the Avengers copy came with subtitles or dubbed in different languages? There must be a German one too!
*checks how Loki sounds in German*
What is S.O.?

Date: 2012-09-29 10:23 am (UTC)I've seen so many screencaps and promo shots of Hawkeye and can't understand why THAT ONE didn't get featured everywhere. Nnnnnnnnnn! Mmm, Blue-eyed Hawk. Under Loki's influence. In need of rescuing. Siiiiiigh.
Did you get a German dub? Cool! How's it sound?

Date: 2012-10-12 11:26 pm (UTC)The way they are in perfect sync, even though they are really far apart?
Definitely something going on with that sceptre/blue glowy eyes thing that keeps them in touch with each other....and you can't help but wonder what else is coming through that link, how much they can "hear" what the other is feeling / thinking.
I've tried the german version, but found the translations not quite satisfactory and Loki's and Hawkeyes voices in english give me goose-pimples in ways the german dub can't ever hope to match. ^_^

Date: 2012-10-13 07:39 am (UTC)Actually all scenes with the two of them are really slashy.
When Clint aims and shoots the arrow, Loki having expected it, catches it, and kind of lazily looks back at Barton, almost as if he's saying Come on, I know you can do better!–I found that quite intense. Even the scene after, when Loki lands on the roof of Tony Stark's tower and throws his hair back in this diva manner and has this venomous glare in his eyes, hahaha :D
That scene where the Avengers capture Loki in Tony's mansion, and Clint is in the center again with his bow and arrow, one of the most beautiful phallic symbols (I like it better than guns actually) and Loki is all sang-froid and cool! LOVE :D (Did you read Croik's marvellous Arrow!Fellatio piece 'But don't say Ah'? I think I recced it, but can't remember ...)
And then the scene, where Thor and Loki go home, and we see Clint with his black sunglasses smirking at Loki, and Loki only from behind. I kind of liked that smirk, and I could imagine Loki boiling with anger, but outwardly wearing his mask of arrogance.

Date: 2012-10-13 12:45 pm (UTC)Someone to fangirl with.....I must've died and gone to heaven. ^_^
Catching that arrow? There's just SO much satisfaction in that smile, such a smugness....a cat that got the cream AND the mouse could hardly match it.
Didn't know Croik's "But don't say "Ah""....but what can I say? Google is a wonderous tool indeed (and I've been writing to much Loki lately....it's beginning to affect my speech pattersn....o_O)
Love the smirk Hawkeye give Loki in the end...but also notice how he doesn't take off his sunglasses? Like he's afraid that his eyes might betray things that he rather wouldn't have others....wouldn't have LOKI see.
And then there's the deleted scenes in the catacombs and again you get that feeling of them operating as a perfect team, falling into a smooth pattern where they match each other's rhythm? SO perfect....and yet edgy, when Loki pushes his thrall, reminding him of a moment where Hawkeye was still fighting for the other side?
The way that questioning his loyalty hits Hawkeye hard enough to stop him in his tracks?
Also, have you read "Penance"? Looks like it will be an eternally unfinished WIP, but oh, the bits it HAS are....almost too perfect for words.

Date: 2012-10-14 05:52 am (UTC)Although I did understand, from a director's point of view why the catacomb scene had to go, I also loved how much in sync Loki and Clint were (different than the awkward dialogue between Selvig and Loki for example, where you can see, that Selvig is totally into the cube and sort of into Loki but ... there is no real connection, only some sort of friendly bewilderment :D).
I adored that bit about Loki not forgetting how Clint had missed Nick (and also Maria Hill).
Yes, about the sunglasses scene I thought the same thing–he's too afraid to take them off and to meet Loki eye to eye–maybe also afraid of what Loki might still be capable of doing to him ...

Date: 2012-10-14 06:30 am (UTC)Readers notice stuff and they often let you see "your" characters with new eyes, which ends up making the story all better.
It's kind of a "damned if you do and damned if you don't" situation.
Selvig is SUCH a fangirl in this....no wonder Loki has trouble handling it *g*.
I keep wondering why Loki brings up that bit about Hawkeye missing Fury. After all, there is no doubt about the thrall's loyalty at that point. It's like kicking a puppy.
With the sunglasses....maybe it's not only that Clint is worried about meeting Loki eye to eye. Maybe it's also about being afraid that the other Avengers might see things in his eyey that he doesn't want them to notice....

Date: 2012-10-14 06:50 am (UTC)I think I once read one or two kink meme fills, where Loki mindcontrols people because he wants a family and friends. Ah, and one, where he mindcontrols Clint into petting and hugging him, with Clint wishing he'd be mindcontrolled by a less pathetic supervillain :D
I thought Loki bringing up Fury was more to let Hawkeye know that he knows and sees everything, and to make him even mor eager to serve, which it kind of does.
Yes, I thought, the whole sunglasses business was to hide something! They might have also to served to hide that he was different than before.
Have you read cerebel (http://archiveofourown.org/users/cerebel/pseuds/cerebel/works?fandom_id=266936)'s Clint/Loki fics? They're incredible!

Date: 2012-10-14 07:01 am (UTC)I think that the thought that Loki wants friends and family is spot on...but I also think that he'd rather drink deadly poison before openly admitting to that.
I think movie-Loki was just pissed because he was starting to get what he wanted...but it still didn't FEEL right, and so he was lashing out indiscriminately....and also, since he's got some self-esteem issues, unnecessarily reminding his thrall who's the boss.
*g* Of course, in different contexts (=stories) there are other interpretations and explanations that work just as well.
I read a lot of Cerebel's Avenger fiction yesterday and commented too. Amazing writer and her stuff goes straigth under your skin.
I hope that lisan will come out with the next chapter of "Heart" really soon, because that's something I've been craving real fierce for ages now.

Date: 2012-10-14 08:43 am (UTC)Yes, HEART would be good. Also that kinkmeme fill I posted the link to, but I don't really hold out hope for this one.

I didn't think of that before, but it sounds right. Also he might feel the need to show Clint "his place"–Clint is a bit cockier and snappier than "Heeeeeyyy" Selvig :D.
I am glad you liked and commented on cerebel's writing! I adore this writer fiercely!

Date: 2012-10-14 08:58 am (UTC)If I'm not mistaken, you are in Australia?
*g* If I'm not mistaken, I got to Cerebel's writing by going through either your bookmarks or some of the links you posted on lj, because you seemed to know where all the good stuff was ^_~
And yep, movie-Loki definitely has a burning need to assert his authority in all kinds of situations (think of his conversation with Heimdall...), because he's so fundamentally insecure about his authority and his place in the world.
Working with someone like Clint who is so SURE about his place and his authority within a given hierarchy (blue glowy eyes or not) has to be like sprinkling salt in his own wounds.

Melbourne sounds great. I've travelled a lot but I never made it as far as Australia.
Thanks btw for feeding my Clint/Loki addiction. Your recs have proven to be a veritable treasure trove!

Date: 2012-09-29 10:31 am (UTC)The whole DVD region thing is so annoying! It would be great to be able to play international DVDs on any player. I bought a region-free DVD player a couple of years ago but those aren't well-distributed.

Date: 2012-09-29 10:52 am (UTC)Even if region wasn't an issue, the shipping cost to get the American edition from the US is ridiculous. They should be issuing the same thing worldwide, dammit.
