So since I got the Avengers Blu-Ray/DVD combo on Tuesday, I have watched:

-The Avengers in English.

-The Avengers in English as I joined in the community liveblogging over on be_compromised.

-The Avengers in English with the S.O., with full permission to riff on it--if we could. We knew that probably wasn't going to happen, as it's darned hard to riff something that's funny in the first place. After one half-hearted, "Bring worms," in response to, "The Hawk? In his nest," I pretty much gave up trying to be humorous and we mostly just chorused our favorite lines with the film ("Then put it on the left!"). I also made a point of freezing the film at 38 min. 50 sec. on the pretext of "Hey, let's have cake! While the screen just...sits here. And I...stare at it. While I eat cake." The S.O. indulges me shamefully. Good times.

-The Avengers in French (partly with the S.O.). That was a whole different brand of fun! My French is quite limited, but enough to catch some of the lines and enjoy hearing how they translated ("Juste douze pour cent c'est mon bébé?"). Riffing is more entertaining that way too; every lame "Votre père smelt of elderberries!" joke gets giggles. Great voice casting, too. French Loki has a particularly great timbre. French Tony (while awesome) gets the deep sexy voice that I would have thought French Nick Fury would have got.

-I have not watched any of the Blu-Ray features because I don't have a Blu-Ray player. Grr. Well, at least most of those leaked to the net last month.

-I've seen nearly all of The Avengers Second Screen experience app. (Turns out you don't need a Blu-Ray to sync it; it sound synced quite easily off the DVD.) There are still glitches with some of the video and storyboard frames, but, man, the behind-the-scenes trivia and CGI effect tech are a fan's dream, and I am just making squealy toddlerfists hoping someone is able to upload the "Stunt team enacts the entire fight scene" videos for everyone to experience. They're terrific.

Still haven't let myself wath the Joss Whedon commentary track. I'm pretty sure, based on the few bits I've heard about, that when I do watch it I'll need a box of tissues at my side 'cos I'll be crying with fangirl feels all the way through.

And since you were probably wondering--and as it doubles for an edition of JR: PLR--this is the image at 38 min. 50 sec.

Thank you for that link–it was such a promising start! I do wish sometimes that writers would finish their stories and then upload them! The Kinkmeme fill link I posted was another case of really promising and then ... nothing. (I do like A03's "Mark for later" for that purpose though ...)

Although I did understand, from a director's point of view why the catacomb scene had to go, I also loved how much in sync Loki and Clint were (different than the awkward dialogue between Selvig and Loki for example, where you can see, that Selvig is totally into the cube and sort of into Loki but ... there is no real connection, only some sort of friendly bewilderment :D).

I adored that bit about Loki not forgetting how Clint had missed Nick (and also Maria Hill).

Yes, about the sunglasses scene I thought the same thing–he's too afraid to take them off and to meet Loki eye to eye–maybe also afraid of what Loki might still be capable of doing to him ...

But then, part of the fun of writing fanficiton is talking to others about the story while you write...and more than once, at least for me, a comment that someone made led the story I was writing in interesting new directions.

Readers notice stuff and they often let you see "your" characters with new eyes, which ends up making the story all better.

It's kind of a "damned if you do and damned if you don't" situation.

Selvig is SUCH a fangirl in this....no wonder Loki has trouble handling it *g*.

I keep wondering why Loki brings up that bit about Hawkeye missing Fury. After all, there is no doubt about the thrall's loyalty at that point. It's like kicking a puppy.

With the sunglasses....maybe it's not only that Clint is worried about meeting Loki eye to eye. Maybe it's also about being afraid that the other Avengers might see things in his eyey that he doesn't want them to notice....

Haha, I love when Selvig greets Loki with his superfunny "Heeeey!" and Loki has this genuinely happy grin.

I think I once read one or two kink meme fills, where Loki mindcontrols people because he wants a family and friends. Ah, and one, where he mindcontrols Clint into petting and hugging him, with Clint wishing he'd be mindcontrolled by a less pathetic supervillain :D

I thought Loki bringing up Fury was more to let Hawkeye know that he knows and sees everything, and to make him even mor eager to serve, which it kind of does.

Yes, I thought, the whole sunglasses business was to hide something! They might have also to served to hide that he was different than before.

Have you read cerebel (http://archiveofourown.org/users/cerebel/pseuds/cerebel/works?fandom_id=266936)'s Clint/Loki fics? They're incredible!

Well, even though Selvig might end up fangirling a bit too hard for Loki's comfort, I think they're both nerds at heart and it makes for quite a bit of kinship.

I think that the thought that Loki wants friends and family is spot on...but I also think that he'd rather drink deadly poison before openly admitting to that.

I think movie-Loki was just pissed because he was starting to get what he wanted...but it still didn't FEEL right, and so he was lashing out indiscriminately....and also, since he's got some self-esteem issues, unnecessarily reminding his thrall who's the boss.

*g* Of course, in different contexts (=stories) there are other interpretations and explanations that work just as well.

I read a lot of Cerebel's Avenger fiction yesterday and commented too. Amazing writer and her stuff goes straigth under your skin.

I hope that lisan will come out with the next chapter of "Heart" really soon, because that's something I've been craving real fierce for ages now.

I didn't think of that before, but it sounds right. Also he might feel the need to show Clint "his place"–Clint is a bit cockier and snappier than "Heeeeeyyy" Selvig :D.

*g* If I'm not mistaken, I got to Cerebel's writing by going through either your bookmarks or some of the links you posted on lj, because you seemed to know where all the good stuff was ^_~

And yep, movie-Loki definitely has a burning need to assert his authority in all kinds of situations (think of his conversation with Heimdall...), because he's so fundamentally insecure about his authority and his place in the world.

Working with someone like Clint who is so SURE about his place and his authority within a given hierarchy (blue glowy eyes or not) has to be like sprinkling salt in his own wounds.
