So, here are the halloween pumpkins I carved for this year. And this year, I made the patterns myself:

This is the picture I began with for the faces:

Then, armed with suggestions from a tutorial website, all I did was stick it into Photoshop Elements, remove the saturation completely to make it black and white, and then I began playing with the Brightness and the Contrast settings until I got this:

And then I printed it and played about with a black ink pen for a bit.

The logo one was supposed to be the EASY one. I messed up more on that one than either of the others!

I'll never be in the leagues with the people who do shading 'n' stuff, but that looks like it takes so long, yipe!

Geez louise, those are FANTASTIC!!!! Pumpkin carving is a talent, man. My only wish is that I could get that sort of thing for, like, HP convention art galleries.

Hmmm...now I wanna do reasearch into trying to preserve carved pumpkins.... XD

Pumpkin carving's just a SKILL. I started with patterns in store-bought books and just kept going! :D But I'm so glad you like, thank you!

These are amazing. *___* I now want to try my hand at shinigami pumpkins, but I lack both your skillz and a suitable place to display them (apartment dweller here).

What tools did you use? I'm guessing an xacto knife or razor?

You have a perfect place to display them--LJ! :D

And I got one of those "Pumpkin Carving Kits" a few years ago, real inexpensive, you get 'em at the drugstore or Wal-Mart 'n' such around Halloween, and they have little minisaws and poky things and such. They only cost a few dollars!

Brilliant! From one pumpkin carver to another, I have to tell you that's some excellent carving, especially considering that you developed the patterns yourself.

I'm still wibbling over what to put on mine this year. Sweeney Todd? Pirates of the Caribbean? HP characters (which ones, tbd)? I've thought about carving a D pumpkin, but I'm not sure the effect would be that great...

I keep looking at the ones that have all the SHADING and I weep in despair. They look so time-consuming! I'll never get there. But I'm very happy to have learned to make my own!

Holy crap those are AWESOME. I really wish I had any sort of skillz at this kind of thing, but I tend to keep away from sharp objects for the safety of everyone involved.

Wonderful!

I wish I had pumpkins this year. I would do something similar since I'm already practiced with carving complicated images into them; I've done so since I was...about eleven.

Ooh, if you do, I would love to see them! I'm really impressed by those who can do the complicated ones; I don't think I would have the patience to do the ones with the shading and stuff.

Those came out really nice! Years ago some of my neighbors had an annual pumpkin carking party. The couple hosting it were a painter and a photographer, and they had all sorts of artsy, creative friends, so the pumpkins that got turned out were amazing.
