*gigglesnort* This "Overheard in New York" has to be the best reaction to "No Harry Potter Spoilers!" ever.

Meantime, I finished the...thing...Saturday night. Truly a frenzy; done six days from the moment I started, with 10K words done on Thursday and 10K words done on Saturday, with the others worked in and around work hours the other days. I have formatting and some after-notes and maybe a little editing to accomplish, and there's a work presentation that's due Thursday (it's inevitable; I always get the best spurts of creativity when there's a different project deadline looming) so I think I'm likely to put the thing up just after that. Watch for it Thursday. When I will stop calling it "thing." Don't want to give it a complex.

That Overheard was pretty funny. I've heard of similar reactions, but I think the funniest/strangest thing overall is that people are still cutting "spoilers" re DH on LJ/IJ/GJ/JF. My thinking on the matter is that real fans, the ones that care, have already read the book by now.

Congratulations re finishing the ...thing... :D

Well, there are people who don't want to read it in English, if they're used to reading them on other languages. I can't read them in Finnish because the names are different and I'm used to the English ones, but I know people for whom it's the other way around. I've got two people on my flist who are waiting for the Finnish translation. My sister had problems reading my English copy of OotP because she had read all others only in Finnish, and came to ask me if Dementors are the same thing as Ankeuttajat, and so on. So, it's not exactly easy to switch languages suddenly. That doesn't mean that they won't understand the spoilers, though, just because it's Severus Snape instead of Severus Kalkaros.

You know, you might be right. I'm sorry. I didn't think of that.

I've tried to read the books in Hebrew (I'm bilingual) but the translations were sooo horrible that I didn't bother anymore. I just stick to the English (plus I'm something of a purist so I prefer reading in the original). But yeah, I guess those who are used to reading in their native tongues but are on LJ/can read English well enough for chatting purposes... good point.

It would be so nice if the translated versions could be released at the same date as the originals. I guess that would just be too risky with confidentiality.

I was reading about how DH was the first book to be released in Braille at the same time the English version was released. That was kind of cool.

You aren't wrong about making a bit of an assumption, though--I think it's fair to say that pretty much everyone on my flist came there for the HP and at least reads and understands English, so, everyone on my flist had likely read the book by the time I announced I wasn't going to cut for spoilers any longer, with maybe just a few exceptions.

Yeah, I made a point of warning that I was no longer cutting for spoilers, partly because it's the polite thing to do but also in case there were any foreign language speakers waiting.

Indeed. I'm going to cut for spoilers in posts, but I don't warn about ones in comments anymore. I try to be careful about where I use this icon, though... if it's a post where those two might read comments, I avoid using it.

I love looking at the foreign versions and see how they've changed the name. That entertains me no end. (In French Tom Marvolo Riddle is Tom Elvis Jedusor, so that you can make "Je suis Voldemort" out of it.)

Reading this thread, I couldn't remember his name in the Brazilian Portuguese books so I went to look it up (it's "Tom Servolo Riddle" for "Eis Lord Voldemort" which basically means "Here is Lord Voldemort") and ended up stumbling across the Danish version of his name: Romeo G. Detlev Jr for "Jeg er Voldemort". ROMEO JR! *dies*

Man, I don't know, because the Romeo coupled with the Elvis thing kind of made me think of Voldie using his wand as a microphone and breaking out into a chorus of "Oooooooonlyyyy yooooouuuuuuuu can make all this wooooorld seem riiiight" while serenading Nagini *g* Because Voldie/Nagini = OTP! *g*

In Germany we've got Tom Vorlost Riddle to make "ist Lord Voldemort" out of it or so.

Well, Vorlost sounds kinda spooky still.... but ELVIS?? SRSLY... what XD

OH! By the way I think I lost the tab accidentally, but I ADORED your lj-compliant, age-assured, art-assured art post! Laughed my head off.

I don't want to pressure you, of course! I'm just excited because you're excited, and it seems like you've been working hard. Fanfics that fanfic writers enjoy working on are some of the best ones on the interwebs.

Oh, God, that reminds me of the time I saw someone buying HBP a couple of days after it was released, and I had just had this urge to say, "It's Snape." I didn't, but I wanted to.

Yay! Thursday! I could never get the hang of Thursdays.

Out of curiosity, are you going to be participating in NaNoWriMo, or can I borrow your muse for the entire month of November?

Hell, can I just clone your muse anyway? Even if I couldn't write anything, I have a vivid imagination, and I need a new idea, because my week-long Marluxia Mindfuck fantasy is getting a little old. I suppose I could substitute Zexion in there, since his power works better for mindfuck, and he's more subtle. But he lacks the sadistic glee that Marluxia has.

(And you have NO IDEA what I'm talking about, do you? Oh, well. Still nice to say it "out loud.")

...And apparently, I just left this window open instead of posting three hours ago. I R SMRT! :D

Take the muse! Use the muse! She has a way of showing up on me when it's least convenient anyway. ^_^ By the way, I love your icon, hee!

As you may know, I had a baby five days before DH came out. I knew it was a mistake to leave the house until I'd finished it, but babies need check ups, and pre-existing children apparently wait until books are released then get sore teeth and need dental work. The new baby kept me from reading too much of the book, and I decided to grab something to eat while Della was at the dentist, two days after the book was released. I gambled on the fact that maybe just maybe nobody would be talking loudly about spoilers so early. Apparently not. I didn't understand what in the hell they were talking about, but "Harry", "snitch" and "Dumbledore" were all mentioned before I squealed "spoilers!!", put my ear to my shoulder because I had no hands left (I was carrying the baby), and walked out leaving my poor mother sitting there with a nappy bag and a paper tray of donuts.

Oh btw... the day the book came out I got it at 9am and sat down in my room to read it.
When my father came home from being in town he said that on the tram the driver revealed the ending of the book through the speakers through which you normally announce the stations. WTF?
