Anybody here read Tamora Pierce?

The Circle of Magic books? The latest one, The Will of the Empress?

She's got one of the Circle in a same-sex romance.

I saw her at The Witching Hour; she's a really interesting and gifted public speaker. Every so often I have a Pierce-fit and end up re-reading all of them one after the other.

The Alanna series is still my favorite, but it's the one that I read as an 11-yr-old outsider-type and it stuck with me. I love the Circle Books, and thought Empress was fabulous (esp. Daja's romance plot line.)

I wasn't too keen on the Trickster books the first time I read them: Aly's the one who really strikes me as Sue-ish, with her Magic Sight and incessant good luck and interfering God. But they were much better second time through. I'm listening to the audio version with Trini Alvarado right now and it's great. =)

I seem to like each one of her books better than the last; it's just the way it is!

Yeah, I'm always delighted when something new comes out; her stuff is like crack! After reading the Alanna series several times as an 11-12 year old, I lost track for several years and realized she was still publishing around the end of the Daine series. I've been paying more attention since then. *g*

She also has a good anthology out with Josepha Sherman, called Young Warriors. Her own story in the collection is about the girl who becomes the Shang Unicorn referenced in the Alanna series. I quite liked it. I think her new series is supposed to be set in the Tortal of several hundred years back, about a girl who works for the Lord Provost. Sounds very cool.

Oh, I like Josepha Sherman! I remember a short story by her some years ago...

I think she's one of those authors who does a lot of short story/ anthology work. I want to say she's been in a couple of MZB's Sword and Sorceress collections.

BTW, your icon cracks me up.
