Why [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1 should/should not grab the deleted-and-purged (and available now as it wasn't before when I first got my lj) "amanuensis" for her lj name:

Pros:
1. It's my pseudonym to the letter.
2. No more obligation to others to remember that "1" at the end.

Cons:
1. Must get off lazy butt and do it.
2. OMG CHANGE. Scary.
3. Small cost.
4. Email is "amanuensis1". Website is "www.amanuensis1.com". Leaving it as is promotes remembering this theme across the board.

Right now, because of Con #4, my inclination is to leave it as is. Any strong thoughts?

Look, you can even have a poll. With ticky boxes.

Can you not have both?

From: [identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com
I can, and I've just grabbed it as a dummy account, but I don't want to actually USE two. Now I'll leave the other alone and not worry about it for the moment. It's there if I decide I want to.

Your musings hurt my sleepy brains, love. However! I must tell you that I'm writing Ariel/Jasmine porn. I'll let you know when it's done because it's YOUR fault.

OMG that's fabulous. I LOVE you!! Ariel/Jasmine, that's PERFECT. I cannot wait!!!

I vote change because I don't like 1s at the end, and I'm sure people can remember to add the one otherwise, as long as they're all basically the same name.

I mean most people can get away with variations on a theme so I don't think removing the 1 would cause that much memory hurtage, especially if amanuensis1 (the lj) forwards to amanuensis, and all links for [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1 changes to amanuensis.

And finally 'cause omgbbq what if someone else really does come along and steal it? :( easier to have both under your possession (as changed usernames can redirect to the new) than just one, yeah? :D

I went with your last point! I seized it and can change in the future iffen I want. Thanks so much for the input!

ticky boxes!! yea!!

okay - I'm indecisive.

Why not take both...

Decided to take both and just sit on the second. It costs a bit more this way if I do decide to change but it's worth having the pressure off.

I suggest have both - keep the current one for your fic (as it links to your site etc) and have the 'real' you as your RL and other bits identity. Just a thought, but then I selected the 3rd option on the poll anyway.

As long as I can find your fic, and make sure you're ok, then I dont really care if you become BooBooKittyFuck - but I'm just silly that way! *waves*

Oh, blah, RL? Who wants to hear about that? ^_^

Seriously, I don't want two accounts--but I did pay for the other so that it's there if I do want to change it. And I'll leave it empty for now.

I voted leave it, because although I can feel the temptation, I agree with all your cons. That said, I also agree with the above comments suggesting to have them both, although I wouldn't make two journals... Perhaps use the newly freed up [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis to redirect to this journal in case people do forget the '1'... Argh, it's one of those situations where you wish you'd never noticed *lol*

Whoa, my soul mate!! I'm doing everything you suggested, no kidding! Leaving it for now, but I did seize [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis, and I'll put up a redirect, and, yes, I sort of wish I'd never been faced with the option! *huggles*

I voted for you to change it, based solely on the fact I don't like numbers in username and [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis just looks better without the 1.

From: [identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com
I'm going to think about it. The username number thing is always awkward.

I see where the temptation is, but I'd leave it as it is. Most people are use to the 1 in the end. Taking both would be the best option by far, though. It gives you unlimmited time to decide if you want one or the other. I didn't help much, did I?

Get it even if you don't change your lj to it. Nobody else should be you, and you can use it to read communities or something.

My first thought upon seeing that they were purging old accounts: thank god. Now Amanuenis can finally get that damn '1' off her user name!

Seriously.

I almost changed my LJ name after my mom found my journal, but this was exactly why. My email is xylodemon, my website is xylodemon, and my username at skyehawke is xylodemon. If I'd changed my journal name, I'd probably start singing *one of these things is not like the other* every time I logged in.

Hmm... I think I would agree with those who say have both? Because soon enough someone else could grab it again... But also, it's still a cost to do so. I'm not bothered by the 1 at the end, and I do remeber it, but it would look cleaner without it. And I suppose that it could be nice to finally be able to drop it?

If it can be used to point people this way, it would be really neat though. :-) Then you'd really be Teh One Amanuensis!!!1!!

I say at least try to get the name, even if you're not sure you want to use it. My motto: Keep all options open as long as possible. (Yay procrastination!)

I see why it would tempting, but I have to agree with on the theme. Especially considering the website has the 1 on it. It just makes it easier to remember if everything is the same. Besides, I wouldn't get of my lazy butt to do anything like that, so why should I ask you to? Happy decision making!

Hehe, I got your reply and I was reading over what I had written this morning because it was like 7:00 a.m. and I had just stumbled out of bed, so I couldn't really remember everything I'd said clearly. After the first line, it occurred to me that I probably shouldn't be attempting to type anything that early in the morning. I misspelled 'off' and left out three words entirely. ::shakes head:: I am just not a morning person, no matter how hard I try.

I want you to keep the 1. I feel it as an intergal part of you now. You are the speciam amanuensis!

Mind you, get the journal anyway. You might be able to use it for something. :)
