No, I still can't let myself believe Revenge of the Sith is going to be good enough to redeem the suckage that were episodes 1 & 2. Believe me, I want nothing more than to pleasantly surprised--hell, deliriously, orgasmically surprised. But [livejournal.com profile] hackthis said it so well I can't improve on it: "I am an old skool Star Wars fan, and I want to be so excited about Revenge of the Sith, but man, George Lucas has fucked me without lube one too many times." I wore a "Dear God, what if it sucks?" button to The Phantom Menace, knowing just how much emotional investment I had in that film, and, guess what, it did suck, and I can't let myself be built up that high again. No. Just, no.

That having been said, I am going this weekend--though not as early as tonight. So, keep the spoilers behind cut-tags for a few days at least, wouldja?

Oh, and, check out the awesome old skool icon [livejournal.com profile] fyrie made for me:

I agree. Phantom Menace had to be one of the WORST things EVER in the history of film, books, and all things sacred.

BTW, That Icon Rocks. So, how do you feel about the scene at the end of the revamped on with Hadyen instead?

Er, I don't think I understand the question...?

DVD of Return of the Jedi now has ghost Hayden Christiansen in place of ghost-scarred-old-dude-Vader at the end.

Oh! I'd heard that. I haven't yet seen the "special edition" Jedi. I have to watch both Empire and Jedi in the special editions. So far I've been clinging to my original edition videotapes.

Remember at the end of Episode 6 when Anikin comes to Luke after he died. Well, in the new ones, it is Hayden not Prowse. Most people were in a tear about that. Most of the editing that Lucas did to the Remastered 4, 5, and 6, pissed fans off.

Heh, it wasn't Prowse in that one either. I've forgotten the name of the actor (I was geeky enough to know that once). And, yeah, I haven't seen the special edition Jedi. Though I'll break down and do it one of these days.

Phantom Menace is so much better than sucky Episode II! But Episode III beats both, luckily! :)

I beg to differ. I didn't mind BroodMaster2000 Hayden Christenson as Anakin, but that kid was annoying. Jar Jar was enough for me to almost not see Episode 2. It was a relief when I realized that everything was Jar Jar's fault.

It doesn't bother me that much that the new movies suck, despite having grown up with the first trilogy sort of branded on my heart. Episodes I & II are so far removed from what I'd imagined and hoped for that I can't believe they belong in the same universe as IV, V, and VI. The backstory I imagine is better and that's what I'll stick with. But I'll still see III because I'm curious. And I'll keep Ewan as Obi-Wan. :)

Ewan as Obi-Wan is one of the few redeeming factors. And dammit, I LIKE Natalie Portman, always have. But oh, how badly Lucas has treated her.

I love her outfits. I'm probably one of the very few who do, but...I do. They're so beautifully outlandish.

None of the acting was very good, though. Heh, or even a little good. I've even seen Hayden Christensen do better. Bleh.

I LOVE the Amidala outfits. I think they're one of the few standouts in TPM.

I consider the original trilogy "Star Wars" and the now-earlier stuff "the Episode things" - you know like in Dragonlance there's the heart of the series and then all the extra books. They're canon, but not Canon, if you see what I mean. :)

However, Episode III did a great job of bringing both parts together, in my opinion.

THIS is how it was supposed to end!!!

In my opinion, Revenge of the Sith was 10 times better than Episode I and Episode II put together. My Star Wars freak frien was happy with it, too, and even some of my male friends, who critisize all movies, liked it!

Two of my friends saw a screening and they were both happy with it. One of them even thinks it's better than Return of the Jedi, and the other one says it's just a little worse than Jedi, at least. Hope that helps! :)

Just don't think that it's perfect. It's not, but it's very good anyway. :) I'm thinking of going to see it again and I usually never do that.

It will suck. I don't care what anyone who has seen it has said. They LIE. [livejournal.com profile] vladimirsever LIES!

My hubby and his friend are catching the midnight show tonight. They've both booked the day off work tomorrow. Such nerds.

I'll let you know what they thought of it.

And I *was* your hubby and his friend for The Phantom Menace. Sigh. Not this time, George.

God, I'm so sorry you lined up at midnight for the Phantom Menance. I've literally seen better film my teeth in the morning.

He's still sleeping....rolled in at 4:00 and I don't have the heart to wake him (let the cockatoo do that - insert evil grin here)

I'll post after I talk to him....probably late this afternoon.

I caught the midnight show over here Down Under, and I have to say IT IS FUCKING AWESOME. I went in skeptical, very very apphrensive and the opening paragraph of the scroll text did nothing to make me feel better because nothing on this earth could ever be cheesier than those few lines. But fortunately, and joyfully it WAS GOOD. It was in fact, GREAT because I didn't expect to like it, but there are moments that makes you glad you were a fan to enjoy the moment when Lucas redeemed himself and finally got the condoms and lube for safe... watching.

Natalie Portman delivers one of the most brilliant lines ever. Ewan does some great acting at the end too.

But the thing that swayed me into starry eyed-ness was the fact the bad guys won, but you should already know that considering the title. On par with Empire Strikes Back in terms of the spirit, beauty and action.

Be reassured.

Try reading them in Finnish! Oh, the horror! I am still wondering, if they really used "pirullinen" in the original version, and if they did, what it was in English... devilish, diabolic, diabolical, fiendish, bloody-minded?

uhm..i never watched any episode of star wars cause I have this *feeling* it would just be *beautifuyl crap*, as you perfectly defined °_° the only thing that i find amazing is how anakin will turn evil in this episode..but it's not enough >_<
Now, i need a big favour: i keep reading around about this beautiful fanfic, the best lucius/harry one according to a lot of fans..."sleeping with the enemy" by maeglin yedi. But..but..my usal luck: it's disappeared from the net T______T how was it? could you tell me the plot, if you know it, or when can i find it?
ah, just as an info: I have a rea journal now..i mean: i'll use it ^^
Bye :*

I can certainly tell you about it! [livejournal.com profile] maeglinyedi did indeed write this story; it was a WIP which she had not yet completed and featured Lucius winning Harry over in a consensual relationship. It was set pre-OotP. Unfortunately Maeglin was not happy with it when she reread portions later, and took it down to revise it. She has stated that she doesn't know if or when it will be revised, what with her attention to so much else.

If it's any help, I just heard from my friend, who is a real old school Star Wars geek, that he's been to see the movie and was pleasantly surprised. Still the only way it could truly be worse than TPM is if they gathered the cast in one place and dropped cows on them, a la Earthworm Jim.

Actually, no, that would be better then TPM.

I quite like Natalie Portman, but apparently she's going to be playing Evie in the film of V for Vendetta, which I just can't see.

Date: 2005-05-20 05:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com
I think she's a good enough actress that she'll be able to make us believe it. Of course, I would have thought that about TPM and AotC, too.

Well, whoever wrote "You could USE a good kiss!" could. Though Harrison Ford wrote it better, of course, with a simple shift of an "I love you, too," to an "I know."

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

There was a comic, who's name escapes me, in the paper the day that EpIII opened, showing the geeks in line for the midnight show, and said that they had to survive the worst part of the wait.... two hours of bad movie quoting.

......I thought that was the best part. That and pants quotes, of course.
