Thanks for all the input so far on the discussion community. Right now I'm trying to draft something that would appear on each chapter's post so that there will be minimal confusion as to what kind of discussion is allowed on each. Later I'll ask for suggestions on that.

(I am thinking there's a balance between politely requesting to remain spoiler-free, and running around screaming "NO SPOILERS NO SPOILERS NO SPOILERS GAHHH WTFOMG" in text all over your lj to the point where random evil-minded passersby are going to think it a hoot to post "Harry DIES" just to imagine your face. Don't we all know jerks like that? I'd like to avoid their attention.)

By the way, if you're interested, I've got a gmail account with invites, and I'd be happy to send you one if you wanted to rout comment notifications from the comm (which I'm sure would be quite busy) to a different email address. Let me know.

You thought of that too! I was going to turn off comment notifications for the community (one can do that, separately from one's own journal comments, yes?) for a couple of days, but this might be a good time to try out gmail for exactly this purpose! Could you hold onto one of those invites for me, please? I had another one around here but I'm not sure where it is at this late date. ^_^ So nice of you, THANK YOU!

Heh, you'll love this--the account works fine, BUT! Refreshing the gmail page (inbox) crashes my browser!! Poo. It was such a clever idea you had, and I was looking forward to giving gmail a try. I'll try it again next time I upgrade my system and see if it works better. But thank you so much for giving me the account--I'll try to make use of it in the future! For now I'll use my regular email addy and disable email notifications on the comments.

Hopefully, you'll get it straightened out eventually. Gmail does have some really nice features to it.

URGH! That reminds me of the most annoying fandom moment I have EVER had - Me and mimbulus were all giddy and fangirly, having just obtained our OotP covers, and ready to read them, when Mimbs did the mistake of opening her messenger, only to find out that one of her messenger buddies wrote her name "OMG NO SIRIUS! AND WOW DOLORES!"
You can imagine how we felt. GRRRRRRRRRRR.
That is actually the reason why I'm not joining your discussion group. Scars for life, woman. :(
