Just the thing to make my Monday!

http://www.livejournal.com/users/dictionary_wotd/231850.html

Woo! Looky me, I kick butt and take names!

This is so cute I just may start celebrating April 4 every year. Hey, any excuse to have cake is a good one.

Well, I could've told you that! ;)

You should... ^-^

With candles? Or at least lots of icing ^_~

Ever make icing and then decide there's really no need to make cake? You just get a spoon and go at it. Yummm.

um... not to interject, but is that Bailey's flavored lube??

Date: 2005-04-04 07:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sorion.livejournal.com
*laughs* No, it isn't. But there ought to be... ^_~
That's just another kind of the drink (don't ask me what kind... I don't drink ^-^')

But actually, that's the idea behind the icon. I wrote a story once, where they used Baileys as lube... *ggg*

Now I can forevermore correctly pronounce your name! This is cake-worthy indeed.

Date: 2005-04-04 06:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com
Yes, except there is a typo there; it's definitely not "un-man-you-"-- that shoulda been "uh-", definitely!

Is it silly that I read your username as Un-Clever-Non?

Date: 2005-04-04 06:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] unclevernon.livejournal.com
Not at all! Several people have said this to me. I like to say it with an outrageous French accent, myself.

"A slave with handwriting duties..." Hehe.

But what should you call it? I'm afraid Amanuensis Day is too long. Besides the general population couldn't pronounce it without help of that link...

[livejournal.com profile] isiscolo made the joke and I had to immortalize it with an icon!

Next line is, "Certainly, Mr. Hitler," or something like that. And now we've really left behind the people who don't get it!

From: [identity profile] heinous_bitca.livejournal.com
It's most defintely Mr. Hitler, but you forgot the best bit!!

"There you are, Mr. Hitler, *sotto voce* you Nazi shithead."

*grins*

BTW, I just read your name! I'm reading Loretta Chase's Mr. Impossible, and she uses "amanuensis" in it! I was all impressed, since I knew the definition from your Word of the Day link! *geeks*

And it's in Sheri Tepper's Marianne, the Matchbox, and the Malachite Mouse--I was rereading that one about two years ago and squee'd when I hit the word!

I agree entirely. Except my favourite is Glorous, when he's doing the bit about Achilles having his foot encased in cement and having to wheel it around the battlefields on a squeaky little trolley. Eddie Izzard kicks ass, much like your good self.

Finally I know what it means and how it's pronounced! (I'm aware of the typo, btw.) And you know what? Somewhere in that Dictionary site there was a link Get the most popular sites for "amanuensis". I clicked it out of curiosity and the first result that came up was your site!

I saw that eysterday (I get the email from dictionary.com) and I immediately thought of you - I gotta say though, my associations with you made me think the word was much more exotic than it is ^.~

I looked up your name in the dictionary months back, when I first started reading your stuff. Then I got all mad: why didn't *I* think of a cool username that actually *means* something?!?!? Grrr....

Um, Happy Nameday!

Happy Nameday! I seem to recall, from some time ago, someone's LJ entry comparing fanfic authors to HP characters. You were Lucius Malfoy. Can you give me a linkie to that entry? I'm dying to reread it, looking for more authors to read. I've read all of your stuff and fangirl you hugely.

And thank you muchly! ^_^

Hi. I posted a review of one of your fics here, and I thought you might like to see it (since I noticed that you're not a member of this comm).

Thanks for a very interesting story, too.

Oh, my freaking goodness! I...I swear I don't know what to say! (O. Henry. She said O. Henry!) I have to use your own words back at you--it was "the thinking person's" review. Wow.

When I'm sufficiently inspired by the story, of course

Ah. Well, fyi, Snape/Harry is what really does it for me.

But I volunteered to do almost all the reviews for your stories at [livejournal.com profile] snarry_reader; the other mods and I are slowly working our way through the list of stories, hoping to eventually have reviews available for every fic listed there. So, you have more treats to look forward to, even without any additional effort on your part. I cross-posted my review of your story to that site already.

[Hahahaha since I'm not really paying enough attention to what I'm doing, I accidentally posted my reply in dictionary.com's lj comments. My bad. I'll post it here too, since this is where you'll actually see it tee hee.]

I get dictionary.com's Word of the Day emailed straight to my inbox, and I chortled to myself when I saw that it was "amanuensis" :P.

And I now know what it means, as well which syllable the emphasis is on! Score!

p.s. - it's a really cool lj username too :)

Oh, that's cute! I was about to post a "go me" silly comment there, and then I remembered that all the people who looked at that community were likely NOT all here for the HP slashsmut, and might have unhappy reactions if they thought "Who's this?" and clicked over to my lj. I'm not interested in foisting the fics on unsuspecting lj'ers. Rather keep it among the friendly folk!

Date: 2005-04-08 07:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] swedishlinden.livejournal.com
hehehe yah those unsuspecting lj'ers might be all like "ooh this person must be a manuscript copier; i want to read some!"

*click*

...aaaand then they'd be in for a surprise. or two. :P

plus a "go me" (or "go you" comment, watevs) is much more effective here!

Actually I got email from someone who said he found my site my googling the word of the day. And wanted to know how I chose the name. He was VERY nice and polite! So I told him laughingly that I hoped the site content hadn't done worse than make him giggle.
