Those of you who haven't seen it, go here and check out [livejournal.com profile] ellen_fremedon's poll on being scared of monsters as a child--but be sure to go into the poll sections where you can view people's elaborations on what scared them and what rituals they used and all. I'm giggling like mad over the variety of answers.

F'rinstance, in response to what you believed would come get you, [livejournal.com profile] flyghosh says, "You know the type...the lanky greenish ones, with the eyes, famous for unwanted anal probing...", while [livejournal.com profile] servalan says, "There was only one (plus the odd alligator)", and [livejournal.com profile] islefrank feared "Huge numbers, which would pop in announcing their names. Primarily a huge blue '1.'"

Go look!

I like how my first thought upon reading that was, oh, Voldemort. XD

Just noticed your comment in my journal - glad (and amused) to know I'm not alone! Alas, there's more. I check my closets and bathtub every night before bed, and I also sleep with my bed at least six inches from all walls. I watch way too many horror films. ;)

Every time I walk about in the dark, I'm mentally forcing myself to go slowly, be an adult...telling myself no Alien is going to grab my ankles and drag me to the floor and wear my guts as a necklace. Meanwhile the other half of my brain is yelling, "Alien Alien Alien ankle-grabbing ALIEN!!!"

I daresay you will think me exceedingly silly, but I was very happy to discover the origin of your LJ moniker. Do you read PG Wodehouse at all? Well, I am an avid fan, especially of the Jeeves and Wooster books. I was reading one of this author's books and guess what? There was your 'name' so of course, I had to grab my dictionary.

So thanks to you and PG Wodehouse, I now know the definition, and will somehow cram that word into my vocabulary hopefully soon.

*does geeky scholarly happy dance*

Hee! No, I've never read Wodehouse--but the few times I've seen the word in print I've been equally geeky, of course! *dances with you*
