Y'know, the comments for the last
pornish_pixies story--the Harry/Draco one--made me giggle over the incoherent brevity of many. As in, "Um, I'm going to be a bit BUSY for a while here and don't want to ruin the mood, so, let me just say THIS in thanks." I don't think I read too much into those things, do I?
Anyway, I'm starting on an up note so that I can slip a whinge in here--My computer's hard drive is on its last gasp, it seems. Each startup may be its last, and each successful start up in the past 2 weeks has only occurred because of a successful Archive & Install. (Twice. Two startups, two A & I's. BAD prognosis.) I was hoping the sucker would not be making these dying noises until after August, and the Pornish Pixies stories were over, but I can't risk it, so, at least some of the time that I was hoping to dedicate just to writing will be spent doing an ocean of backing up, sending in the thing for repair (it's still under warranty), and getting a new laptop up to speed.
However, do not despair, I am presently working on the older computer, am halfway done with story #10 (that was SCARY. The computer decided to go evil on me as I was doing the backup of what I'd written that day--if I hadn't got it to boot I could have lost the 1,000 words I wrote yesterday. But I got it!), and have every intention of acting as though the end of the month is still my goal for the last four stories. It is even more likely that not all will be beta'd and posted, however. But darn, I'd love to see if I can do it. It would be like my own personal NaSmuWriMo.

Date: 2004-08-21 02:08 am (UTC)*coughs* I admit to nothing.
Much commiseration on the harddrive issue, as mine is just about to hit that stage (I give it 2 months, if I'm really optimistic), and I feel your pain.

Date: 2004-08-21 08:51 am (UTC)Hey, my gmail's being *very* wonky at the moment, so let me know if you didn't get your last beta. Otherwise, no reply needed. Sounds like you have your hands full there. Just be thankful you're getting an opportunity to back things up. I keep seeing people lose *everything* and telling myself I need to do that, but, meh. Maybe tomorrow. :D

Date: 2004-08-21 12:34 pm (UTC)May I recommend, from personal experience only, a remote hard disk as backup medium, the Maxtor OneTouch. It has a button in front, and you can make a full backup of all your files (that you have specified) by pressing this one button, and then go away. Wonderful technology. Before that I knew how to make backups, but did not make enough because of the hassle.
I do not work for or with this company, and do not even have any shares, I am just a customer. Other brands might offer the same functionality.

And I would like to thank you again for all your stories. You are one of my favorite writers in the HP fandom.

Date: 2004-08-22 08:44 am (UTC)And poor you!!! It's like, a crime when often-onliners have old computers or computer problems. As soon as you become prolific and busy in fandom? Poof! a nice newish computer should just materialize for you.
Um...I like to have silly fantasies, ehhh heh heh.
