Weekend report (so far)

Had a lovely time at Anime North with dear besties nimori, moon_child02, and new-awesome friend A. (a/k/a Peanut). Stayed up late, squeed like mad things, cursed the SHI (Shitty Hotel Internet) which would not allow us to load more than thirty seconds of any YouTube video, did creative cosplay, and came away with swag including hand-made Kuroshitsuji notepaper, multi creepy-hot guy bookmarks (Undertaker, Alucard, Count of Monte Cristo), Sherlock keychains, fandom slogan pins ("The cake is a lie. A tasty, tasty lie"), green tea Kit Kats, and a set of chibi Avengers pins--all power to the girl who expected there would be a demand for those, and stayed up four nights running, she said, to get those ready for the convention. She was pretty much the only Avengers art swag vendor there and she was swarmed.

And I got a nice tutorial on how to make a tumblr. So I might get around to doing that just to track all the art and gifs that have crowded my monitor for the past three weeks.

On a sad note, leni_jess. Oh, my. For those who haven't heard, she passed away. I had the privilege of meeting this fun, funny, classy lady at at least two HP conventions. She was a wonderful fandom friend, and talented as hell, too--Resolution remains one of my favorite HP fics ever. She was as squeeful over fandom as any thirteen-year-old, and I hope I'm like her the whole duration of my life.

Sounds like you had fun! I...have never heard of green tea Kit Kats, but now I kind of want to try some...

Good luck with the tumblr. I don't have one, don't really know how it works and hadn't really been on the site until a few weeks ago. After watching the Avengers I got some good links to gifs and art and have been addicting to stalking peoples' Avengers tumblrs. There's so much stuff; I don't even know how to credit most of it!

Japan makes Kit Kats in all sorts of flavors: pudding, malt, banana pepper, cherry blossom...I'm the sort who has to try each one at least once. Green tea flavor is ambrosial, mmm.

I save most pictures I like to my hard drive, but gifs (and gif sets) are best viewed online. I figure reblogging everything in one place lets me find those most easily.

And, yeah. Sigh. Thanks.

That's a good point-- I save everything to my computer, but I can't really see any of the gifs unless I upload them somewhere. I have no idea how tumblr works with reblogging and stuff. Is there a manual/tut somewhere?

Anime North sounds like a blast! Count of Monte Cristo = Gankutsuou? Very awesome, that. Green tea kit kats would be worth a try (omnomnom - although plz to be having dark chocolate?). And yay for Avengers foresight. :D

Wow - I never came across leni_jess, but she sounds much too young to have gone like that. My sympathy to her family and friends (incl you).

I don't know exactly how old leni_jess was; she was not a young person in years; in fact she may well have been the fandom friend of the greatest number of age-years in my acquaintance. But it doesn't matter, I still wish she'd had dozens more.

I don't know leni_jess nor do I think have I ever read any of her HP fic but I clicked on the link and read some of the entries and every time one of us fanpeeps or LJ-sibs or whatever you call us dies it just chokes me up.

I know, sweetie, I know. :( So many of my old lj friends have gone on to other things; there wasn't as much signal-boosting as you might expect. She will be missed by a lot of us, though.
