Kuroshitsuji viewers out there?

Gratuitous anime art. Too pretty not to.

Anybody else watching the anime of Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) right now? Cripes, talk about a change in tone! It's as if we were watching, I dunno, the Barbie Cinderella for three episodes, and then they dumped the goofy characters and the show turned into the Disney Cinderella with the right blend of humor and darkness and perverted subtext (this is exactly the right metaphor, right down to the violation in a pink dress), and now on episode 5 they've suddenly whipped Grimm's Aschenputtel in our faces, what with the slicing-off-of-heels and pecking-out-of-eyes. I'm not saying I don't like it, but, whoa.

Date: 2008-11-08 08:53 pm (UTC)I'm watching the series via downloads that can be had in anime-eden.com and aarinfantasy.com. It's gen rather than yaoi but the writers clearly adore playing with the subtext; serious deliberate teasing by the writers, I'm tellin' ya.
I haven't made a good comprehensive post on the anime I recommend--would like to remedy that!--but the ones I've enjoyed include:
Death Note (utter favorite) (gen but slashy)
Code Geass (gen but slashy)
Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo (gen but slashy)
Kuroshitsuji (pretends to be gen)
Junjou Romantica (yaoi)
Zombie-Loan (gen but slashy)
Antique Bakery (gay-friendly rather than true yaoi)
Loveless (yaoi)
Ai no Kusabi (yaoi)
Strawberry Panic (yuri)
Simoun (yuri)
Cowboy Bebop (still working my way through these; too amusingly plotty for me to slash)

Of course, if you've seen them both, just ignore my babbling. :D
