Without doing anything beyond bordering on spoilers, Doctor Who 4 x 08, Silence in the Library, is my favorite episode of the season, and I say that knowing full well they could fudge it all up next episode, but I don't think they will. This is exactly the sort of brain-pounding "Where is this all GOING, omigod??" that I loved about episodes like Blink and The Girl in the Fireplace.

I have finally got around to watching My Boy Jack--I've heard very little about this on my flist, which surprises me. I'd be watching this even if not for Dan Radcliffe, as my TiVo is set for Masterpiece anyway, but, migod, I'm only forty minutes in and I've been close to tears so many times. Radcliffe really can act, dear gods, he really can. And this is a perfect role for him, metaphorical even, as a young man in transition to grim adulthood. I suspect I'll really be at the kleenex before this is over.

And to think that, in 2010, there will be a whole Dr Who series produced and masterminded by Steven Moffat. It can't come soon enough.

And I forgot to check--did he write this episode? I never really register who wrote what; it's all part and parcel of the same series to me.

He did! I like his episodes best, but then, I'm a Coupling fan as well.

It would be spoilery for my to go on about what I really liked.

OH God.. you're so going to need a box of tissues. I've had it on DVD for a while now, as soon as it came out I got it (am in the UK so wasn't hard) It is a fabulous tear-jerking film, and Dan is wonderful in it. xx

Yeah, I have my suspicions, even though I'm going into it not knowing how it ends.

Not yet, I had to go away for a while. And... *looks down the page* evidently I should have finished it before I checked my comments, damn.

IT WAS SO WRETCHED. BUT IT WAS NOBLE. IT WAS SO VERY VERY FITTING, GAH.

All praise Steven Moffat

The episode was awesome, and then they threw in the weirdness with the little girl and I didn't know what was going on. I was jumping in my seat for more!
And then the doctor was oh-so-clever and I became very disappointed. I am terrified of the dark and thought this episode would make me afraid of every dark corner of my room while I watched it, but once they explained the evil as a swarm of bugs? pfft. It lacked the ongoing tension and suspense that made Blink so terrifying. It was a fun ride, but not as terrifying as I would have liked.

I'm all hair-tearing, trying to figure out what's going to happen--that's the sort of thing I adore, when I'm actually kept guessing at how everything's going to fit together.

I bawled when I watched it, especially at the tragic loss of a life just started, the end when the poem was read and when the soldier came to tell Jack's parents.

OH JESUS. Um. I haven't finished watching it yet. I had to leave for a while and I came back to check my comments. *facepalms* That'll teach me.

Yes, and a very reasonable assumption, it's okay. --Besides, it's history; if I didn't know what was coming that's my own education's deficits. ^_^

"Have you news of my boy Jack?"

Sorry you got spoilered. :(

I knew the outcome historically speaking, but I didn't know what the tenor and focus of the film would be.
Okay. Yes, there was a strong element of denial in my expectations - or lack thereof!

But it was wonderful! The acting on all parts was sublime and superb.

And the poem...
---
"Have you news of my boy Jack?"
Not this tide.
"When d'you think that he'll come back?"
Not with this wind blowing, and this tide.
---
*sniff*
I have the full poem here:

And it makes me weep every time...

The spoiling was my own fault--I should have known to go back to the TiVo first rather than the computer, when I came back a few hours later!

Though because of it, it distanced me from the remainder of the watching. Now that I'm reading your comment and the quote, oh, it's starting to hit.

Doctor Who was awesome. I'd almost lost the faith, this season - I know, I know!

I had an enormous (and rare) girlcrush on Jack's sister in MBJ. Sally Sparrow FTW ;)

Was that Sally Sparrow?! Silly me, I only recognized her as the daughter from The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard!

Thank you for the fic recs at your site they are very helpful.

I was wondering would this trio fic seem familar to you?

I am looking for a Harry/Ron/Hermione.

The fic starts with Harry finding out at the Burrow that Hermione and Ron have been secretly dating.

Harry tells Ron he likes her Ron asks him why he never said anything.

Hermione is confused she decides she doesn't want to ruin Ron/Harry's friendship so she decides to break up with Ron

Harry and Ron come to a decision to share her. They do.

But the relationship is a bit broken when Hermione finds out Harry and Ron are together without her.

She takes a break from them.

But by the ending of the fic Hermione goes to their room to help them and asks if she can spend the night.

I hope someone finds this familar.

I am sorry! I don't know this one, though there is something about it that seems familiar. And I do like trio fics!

Some of the details are wrong -- Harry finds out at Grimmauld Place, not the Burrow, for instance -- but this sounds a lot like [livejournal.com profile] carter_sg1's Bound to Happen (http://www.triofic.com/viewstory.php?sid=111), at Table for Three, the Net's premiere triofic archive (http://www.triofic.com), which, as it happens, I manage.

I was trying so hard to get people to watch My Boy Jack, but for some reason, my RL friends couldn't get around the "OMGit'sdaninamoustachesoooowrong!" and see it for the amazing movie it is. I thought ALL the acting was amazing. What a wonderful collection of actors.
I was crying so hard by the end.
