I saw Iron Man today. There's this moment, this image, right near the beginning, right? That I looked at and thought, "Holy s**t, I will need to write some serious slash for this film." And then? Like, every time those two characters were onscreen together? EVERY time? The slash freakin' wrote itself. There is no more left for me to do. Jeebus frak.

I loved the movie. Loved it to pieces. Any time the camera wasn't actually on Robert Downey, Jr.'s face, I wanted to insist they get right back to it, dammit. He's brilliant in this, makes the film a divine, natural piece of storytelling. And the man has the prettiest crow's-feet laugh lines about his eyes I've ever seen. Robert, Robert, do not be led down the path of Botox. Satan and his minions lurk for you in that wayward direction. And never shave the facial hair either. All pictures of him clean-shaven now look WRONG.

I feel back in love with RDJ in "Zodiac." I only expect my love to be further renewed when I get to see Iron Man tomorrow.

Incidentally, Jake Gyllenhaal has those awesome laugh crinkle-lines too. I LOVE THEM SO.

The problem is I rarely see the kinds of films RDJ makes. In fact, I have just looked at his entire IMDB list and the only other films I've seen him in are Richard III and Good Night and Good Luck. That's ALL. So this one really made me take notice.

I hope you love it! I had a thing for Iron Man when I was small but only the armoured guy. I don't know if I even knew what Iron Man's real name was back then. Beware the comments here, we're getting a little spoilery!

I'm hoping to see it on Sunday, and trying not to get too pumped about it, because comic adaptations always let me down, although I keep hearing good things about this one. But I had to say that I've always thought RDJr an amazing actor. It just about breaks my heart whenever he goes and screws his life up again, because he has all this incredible talent. Then again, maybe it's being that kind of person that makes him such an amazing actor. I try to hope not.

Actually, no, not remotely. That was as platonic a buddy relationship as I can imagine.

I can't find an image online. But remember the montage of magazine covers? It might have been a Newsweek one, I can't recall--that one that says something about the new kid stepping up to take control, and of Tony Stark and Obadiah Stane looking smoulderingly over their shoulders at each other? INSTA-UST, baby. And then it just kept coming and COMING and there was all the TOUCHING and...god, the slash wrote itself, every time.

I actually saw Tony/Jarvis - of course, Jarvis being the AI, there'd need to be a virtual world for them to get it on but I'm sure there have been far more dysfunctional relationship in comics XD And the good thing about Jarvis being the AI in this iteration of Iron Man, means tat he doesn't have to be an old butler type dude ala Alfred of Batman - he could be a sarcastic 20/30 something guy who Tony SO DEPENDS ON.

Hehe, I didn't notice the slashiness, but now you mention it, it's all I can think about. Hate to go the evil route to the Dark Side, but I've a het plot bunny nagging at me to write it!

Total agreement on RDJ. He's a thing of beauty and, like so many other men, seems to only get sexier with age. Jeeze, I wish that worked with women, too.

LOL, when you said "early on in the show" I thought you meant Tony/Yensin. Heeee.

Although I must say, I'll have to jump on the Tony/Jarvis OTP ship. Adored Jarvis's accent and the other robot machines. If Paul Bettany really was the housekeeper, I don't think any superhero-ism will get done in between the wild sex interludes.

I'm guessing Yensin is one of the soldiers in the truck? 'Cos, yeah, that would really have been the beginning. ^_^

Also, Tony and Rhodie (sp?) would kind of squick me a little. They're like brothers.

There is no more left for me to do.

That's so interesting! I've read two other slash writer's reviews of Iron Man, and that's basically the exact same thought they had!

aklj Robert Downey, Jr GOD YES. He's so consistently impressive that it's unbelieveable. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Fur are two of his EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE movies that first spring to mind.

I spent about half an hour today thinking: Should I write Iron Man fic? Or just RDJ fic? Or just cut out pictures and paste them onto my notebook.

Then I looked sadly at myself, and reminded myself that no one will take me seriously as a journalist if my Moleskine is covered in RDJ.

So I should paste the pictures inside my notebook.

Which is to say that I finally found this post and have been cruising through the comments to say, yes. YES, YES I WANT HORRIFYINGLY HOT ON THE COUCH, I'M GOING TO TAKE YOUR HEART AS SOON AS YOU COME fic. Or you know, just fic about Obadiah and Tony having ridiculously kinky consensual sex involving that little gadget.

Yeah, the cover where Tony and Obadiah are back-to-back is Forbes. The other picture of them standing together -- the really moody one in a warehouse kinda thing with Tony with his chin tilted up and Obadiah in the back, all in being like I will fuck you up -- isn't associated with a magazine cover. I like to think that it's an oil painting hanging up somewhere at Stark Industries headquarters. XD

YOU KNOW IT. WHERE IS THIS FIC. WHY HAS IT NOT BEEN WRITTEN THREE DOZEN TIMES OVER ALREADY DAMMIT. TONY ALL PARALYZED AND OBADIAH ALL "we had something once, didn't we, kid" AND HEARTGADGET PLUCKED OUT AND FONDLED POSTCOITALLY YES YES YES.
