God help me, I am trapped in Dilbert Hell. Something is wonky with my workplace's wireless internet, but in order for them to reboot their servers or routers or what have you, it has to go to higher administrative off-site echelons and be approved, which I'm told will take days to get the approval. If that even turns out to solve the problem. Meanwhile I am using dial-up. DIAL-UP. At least I made sure they never got rid of those analog phone access points.

But, I promised frivolity, didn't I? So here's a picture which made me snort caffeine-free diet coke up my nose.

(The Essential Ingredient, featuring Snape and a hippo, by Protowilson)

This is hardly strong evidence of how desperately work-related my need to have the high-speed wireless restablished is, but, foo. I'm taking my stress relievers where I can.

...Yes, because everyone knows it's completely absurd to want high-speed wireless to get anything done these days.

Good command set-up, there.

*wanders off to meeting in which high-speed WILL be a crucial component; thankfully, the tech head will be IN this meeting so I assume we will have it.*

In other news, I hate you. Because what am I in the middle of (trying to) write(ing)? Mactavish and the Mermaid, the entire children's story. In verse, because that's how it started.

AUGH.

I am telling you this because at the rate it's going, it will not actually be soon enough to cheer you, but you know, since you need the cheering and all, and it's your fault, well.

The problem is there haven't been enough complaints from others, so they're stuck in, "Our laptops are accessing it fine, don't you think it must be you?" mode, except I can connect EVERYWHERE I GO IN MY CITY except suddenly not at work. Apple support swears blind my computer is working fine and it has to be the workplace network that has developed a problem that affects a small number of users--likely to be cured by taking the network down and bringing it back up again. At home I do this with a push of a button. Apparently here, it's done by off-site committee.

This is the point where pulling the power cord is a good idea.

Last place I worked, we - programmers, mind you, with Unix boxen, not just PC users who got baffled once they got out of Word - did not have admin privileges on our own machines. But said machines were sitting under our desks. So I couldn't reboot my computer or even do a clean shutdown - but I could pull the plug.

Yeah, I really have no idea what's going on or how to fix it. There are a few helpful people who are going to keep working with me.

Okay, this has nothing at all to do with your post, but I've been meaning to tell you this for ages now, so here goes.

I was in English class some time ago, spacing out during a lecture because it was a lot of same ol' same ol' and I hear the word "chimaera."

My first thought is chimaera = randy because Lucius thought so in A World Not So Black Nor White.

I began to laugh uncontrollably, and rather loudly. The entire class turned to look at me with these quizical "Should I be afraid? Is she dangerous?" looks. Which only served to make me laugh more.

After class, Mr. Cutest Guy EVER comes up to me to ask just what was so hilarious. Now, I could have said, "Oh, it's this really great, really smutty Harry Potter fan fiction. There's this thought about chimaeras, and..." But instead, I say, "Uhhhhhh..." and try to excuse myself. Doesn't work as well as I'd have liked. He thinks it's terribly intriguing I won't tell what's so funny. I did manage to get away without a proper explanation, but I thought you might find this funny, so I shared.

Whoops. Meant to say chimaera = part goat and goat = randy because Lucius thought so.
