Secondary to some very pretty artwork by [livejournal.com profile] rexluscus, I watched the anime of Pet Shop of Horrors--homg, I can see why this thing is a slashgirl's dream. There's only one OTP, one guy's bishounen-pretty and wily while the other's buff and suspicious, and while they're not actually doing it they're about one come-hither look away. And from what the anime demonstrates, the fanfiction must tend to follow the same structure as the episodes, so, you know what yer getting.

I liked it so much I watched it again the very next day. Who wants to point me to the good fanfiction?

I love, love, love PSOH. I'm at work, so I don't have any of my good links here, but I'll see if I can dig them up when I get home. There are some really good fanfics out there.

I'm in this frame of mind where I could write one right now, without having read any, but I think I'd rather look to see what's been done first. ^_^

Telanu has some, and Luthien. Here are Rex's recs: http://rexluscus.livejournal.com/183498.html

Rex herself has some short fics and drabbles.

In PSoH fics, you can just swap out the name Snape for D and Remus (or Harry) for Leon. ;)

From: [identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com
Ooh, no, I don't see that. Snape is moody while the Count is playful, Remus is calm while Leon's a bit of a hothead. I see a different dynamic! :D

Umm... those can't be very good PSoH fics, then. ^_^' There's nothing androgynous about Snape, and he's not particularly animal & Nature loving, etc.

Actually, once you read the manga you find even more good slashy angles to pair them together. Also, the opportunity for post-series work opens up and becomes really tempting

I can't remember from the anime, but are there any D-orgasms-from-dessert-shots? Because they are Good ^_^

Not fic, sadly, but I can give you the additional joy that is recent Petshop news- though the manga wrapped up a few years back, our darlings are returning soon! The mangaka is starting up a sequel, and the squeeing is heard 'round the world. Me, I just can't wait to see what D turns up WEARING.

If you write Petshop fic I will love you EVEN MORE FOREVER omgyus

There are two or three volumes of Shin Pet Shop of Horrors out in Japanese, but it seems that there's still no Leon. :/ There's apparently another interesting character to replace him, though... I've read only 4ish chapters of it, as I got fed up with the missing Leon. :/ I'll buy them when Tokyopop publishes them in Japanese, though.

I also recommend reading the Manga.
The manlove undertones are ever so wonderful.
Enjoy!

I'm gonna have to check out the manga, I see! ^_^

My favorite of the 4 anime eps was the first, Daughter. I was expecting, from the title and the opening, the petshop owner to be all eeeevil, but then when it turned out that the Pet Shop visits moral judgment on individuals and the Count is not eeeeevil, I thought it was the coolest thing!

Actually, the manga is lots better than the OVA. The anime has only about the first volume of the manga... the manga is 10 volumes, and there's a new series after it with at least 2 volumes out in Japanese. The first series is out in English from Tokyopop and definitely worth a read.

[livejournal.com profile] richelieu's fics are the best I've seen - Unwilling Sleep is my fave, but you shouldn't read it until you've read the manga, as it has heavy spoilers for vol 10 - it starts right after that. I'm not sure how much you can understand without reading the manga anyway... you don't really know anything about Count D if you've just seen the OVa. You really should read the manga, as there are some amazing chapters that tell more of him. One of my faves is the one where he and lean and some others are on a lake after some "treasure"... it's amazing. And the dragon one is awesome for anyone shipping Leon/D. And Dessert for any slasher, as it has canon slash. And so on. XD Volume 10 is the ultimate best. ♥ *points at icon*

You probably don't even "get" my layout if you haven't read the manga. ;)

Warning - fangirling ahead!

To join the chorus: if you even somewhat enjoyed the anime, you HAVE to read the manga. Like whoa. I thought the anime was okay but the manga is just....stupid awesome by comparison. As you might expect, the characters are SO much deeper and more three-dimensional, and there are lashings of the not-quite-but-almost slash you mentioned. If you want it quickly and don't mind not paying for stuff, you can download it here (http://www.mangatraders.com/files/manga/pet_shop_of_horrors).

*goes to check out the recs*

I didn't like the OVA when I saw it first, since it's nothing compared to the manga, but nowadays I've learned to like it. I just really don't like the mermaid or the bunny story... they could have had so much better stuff in it instead. :/

Telanu and Luthien definitely. Make sure you also read Nym's stuff - her WIP "Drive" is nearly done, so it might be worth waiting to read it till it is, just cuz it's fuckin' epic and brilliant.

Be forewarned, though - a lot of fic takes place either near or after the manga series end, and includes all the juicy ongoing-plot stuff you don't get in the anime, so won't make a helluva lot of sense. (Also, it'll spoiler you on the series!) Lemme go through and find all the good stories that don't depend on all that stuff, though. A good place to start is "Desperate" by Nym, which is the hottest porn in the history of porn. Also "Decision" by Telanu (I don't THINK that has serious spoilers) is hot as hell and doesn't require much backstory-knowing.

Mmmm, Leon's English voice. The guy who did that also played Seymour Guado in Final Fantasy X! Sorry, but I had to point that out because I have a voice fetish.

I can't recommend any goodfic for you, because I haven't read anything. This is one of the few fandoms where I only want to have canon in my head.

I was going to link to a review of some bad fanfic (that features Leon crying about not confessing his love to D), but it's full of spoilers, and the review isn't one of their better ones.

So, because I have nothing in the way of PSoH, I will instead point you to every other review [livejournal.com profile] ficbitches has ever done.

Oh wow, you've found Petshop of Horrors! I second all those recommendations up there (some very good writers). I have some old links saved, but I have no memory if these stories from years ago are any good or not!

Here's an old favorite though: Mine by Christi C.. Yeah, it's a little rough, but I love it nonetheless... the ending is what really makes it.
