I know I'm behind you timely folk, but I've finally seen the entire season of the Ninth Doctor. So. Much. Love. Oh, my god. I know everyone's had their season-long squees, which I avoided (and thank you all so much for keeping everything behind spoiler cuts; you're all SO nice), but now I'd really like to see them. Would you, could you, point me towards discussion posts of yours, especially essays or particularly good fanworks? Or if you want to initiate anything here because you're in the mood for more discussion, please be my guest!

This season renewed everything I've loved about Doctor Who since I first discovered it as a teen, with Tom Baker posters on my walls and everything. That ineffable, inestimable Doctor; how I adore him.

(I just watched [livejournal.com profile] thedivinegoat's lovely Building A Mystery vid. OMG so good.)

I liked all the bits that weren't written by Russell T. Davies. I really enjoyed The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances two-parter. That was fantastic, and well up with the very best of Dr Who. My boyfriend has watched all the surviving Who; I came in midway through the run, so I've seen bits of 4th, 5th and 6th Doctors, all the Seventh Doctor, the 8th Doctor film, and the 9th of course! We're starting the run again, so I've seen all of 1 and most of 2 now. I've never seen any proper Pertwee though. *sobs into a fangirlish hankie*

I saw "The Five Doctors" and that's the only Pertwee I ever caught. There was a time when I could list all the Fourth Doctor episodes in order!

Likewise (with the Pertwee, I mean). But that's obviously with different writers for a different age. I'm looking forward to seeing the real thing - when Dr Who went colour! The BBC are slow at releasing DVDs though, and there aren't repeats of the earlier seasons on terrestrial TV (though I hear the current deal with uktv gold's up for renewal.

I need to see the Doctor Who. Though how are they going to get around the regeneration issue? I can't believe that he was only on his first regeneration as William Hartnell!

Arrgh. Make that "the new Doctor Who".

I don't think anyone need worry about the regenerations--they can always find a way around these things. It's Science Fiction!

Heh. That was the whole gimmick behind The Master, especially later on: He'd found a way around the twelve-regen limit.

Bwahaha. Welcome to the fold. ;)

I don't have too many discussion recs, but if you're interested in fics, I can provide some pointers there....

I'm not averse! If you see some real prime examples, point me. I'm not as interested in creating fanworks of it myself but I'd love to see good examples of 'em.

A good place to start might be the Mauve and Dangerous Awards (http://www.loony-archivist.com/mad/winners.htm) -- it was recently held to honor 9th Doctor fics. There's definitely a good selection of stories there. (also including a couple of mine, cough. ;) [livejournal.com profile] taraljc also does semi-frequent recs posts -- this (http://www.livejournal.com/users/taraljc/tag/whovian+recs) links to everything she's tagged so far.

enjoy. ;)

I'm definitely going to have a look there! Exactly what I wanted; thank you.

A tiny rec - [livejournal.com profile] underlucius wrote this drabble which is an interesting perspective: Tamagotchi.

[livejournal.com profile] rose_and_lizard started a Dr Who/Marlow crossover fic, which looked highly promising for its use of the conventions of both, but she didn't proceed with it, or at least there are only four parts so far, the last some time ago - alas, so I shan't tantalise you with a URL. You need to know Antonia Forest's Marlow children's books to appreciate it, though, because the focus is on a couple of characters from them.

Oh, that was a delightful piece. Pets indeed.

I don't know the Marlow books you speak of, unfortunately--and I'm not gonna go after a WIP as a rule, but, thanks for the thought.

The MAD awards (http://www.loony-archivist.com/mad/) nomination list is an excellent place to start for fic. I'd also recommend [livejournal.com profile] loneraven's picks of the best of the Ninth Doctor ficathon (http://www.livejournal.com/users/loneraven/423555.html). Significant essays: Gallifrey go BOOM (http://www.livejournal.com/users/taraljc/740466.html) by [livejournal.com profile] taraljc about how the destruction of Gallifrey changes the Doctor's character; the Nine/Rose manifesto by [livejournal.com profile] larakailyn; the Doctor/Rose/Jack manifesto (http://www.livejournal.com/community/ship_manifesto/107103.html) by [livejournal.com profile] loneraven; and finally (for variety) [livejournal.com profile] synaesthete7's and [livejournal.com profile] amchau's Nine/Rose (http://www.livejournal.com/community/new_who/99984.html) anti-ship manifestos (http://www.livejournal.com/users/amchau/107308.html).

For a little bit of joyous crack, try [livejournal.com profile] girl_doctor.

Meanwhile, cannot wait for Tennant's who to show up. Feel the love!

As usual, I have no idea how I ended up here. I think I was looking for non-fandom mood themes and Google led me astray. But since I *am* here, I have some Dr. Who discussion bookmarked from a while ago: These two will sizzle: Rose/Nine from start to glorious end (http://www.livejournal.com/users/the_royal_anna/44798.html) by [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna.
