Okay, here's the scoop. I made an empty journal, and purchased "amanuensis" as a rename token for IT, so now there is an empty journal called amanuensis. Now I've got it, and I can either leave it empty (I'll probably put a "Hi, wrong journal!" post on it just for a marker) or change it at some future date--I do NOT intend to use it as a second journal; what on earth would I want one a' those for?-- but for now, it's mine, and no one else can have it. Mu ha ha ha. Not reponsible; drunk with power.

If you wind up paying twice for renaming, to be quite sure no one else can beat you to the user name you want, sounds like LJ has hit on a nice little earner. But at least now your name is yours, and not available for theft confusion-making. LJ version of copyright, yeah.

I mentioned this username because I've seen about a dozen different people point to their journal, incorrectly thinking they are rushlight75. I usually correct them, but I just saw it again last night on yet another recs page. Just another example of how it is confusing it all is to have numbers on your name in one place and not in the other. (I really wish Rushlight could drop her numbers, too.)

Do you know, I have one of those! But it's a community, in which I can post without having to log in and out, and isn't something people are going to stumble over like they would amanuensis. I'd rather people didn't go reading the raw chunks, which they might do if it were in something as easily findable as amanuensis.

That might be too large for LJ to handle, yeah. You might try posting it on an archive or group and linking it on your lj--or, better yet, break the story down into two pieces and make two posts for it!
