I hate it when my browser quits unexpectedly on me; I only shut down my laptop about once a month and at any given time I have a minimum of thirty open browser windows full of fic/art to read/look at/feedback. Which means a lose a lot that I can't reconstruct after a quit.

So I was in the middle of this delightful Snape/Harry story that was linked in the semi-finals of the [livejournal.com profile] hp_journos community, but, as they're past the semi-finals and onto the finals (and that story didn't make it to the finals), that particular post has been locked, and, remembering neither author nor title, I'm helpless.

Help, please? Some of you must remember it from the [livejournal.com profile] hp_journos poll. Snape and Harry were in hiding together, and sleeping in the same bed for warmth, and slowly getting involved, and it was a multi-parter posted on lj. I'd really like to finish it!

ETA: You guys are great! Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] leianora.

Was that the one where Hogwarts had been invaded and just a few of them were in hiding in tunnels way underneath? That was very cool and I only read the first part of it.

No, but I'm sure there are a lot of stories that sound like this--I was annoyed that I couldn't remember more details! (Refresh this post and you'll see that the story's been found.)

That sounds like [livejournal.com profile] switchknife's Morsmordre (http://archive.skyehawke.com/story.php?no=1091).

That's it! And why didn't I remember that? I love Switch's stuff.

Skyehawke has a copy of it. I read it there, as well as on LJ, but I can't remember how I was pointed to the LJ link. Sorry.

I think there's a way to get back old open tabs in Firefox, though I don't know exactly what it is...

Safari has a week's worth of one's old links archived, but this link was older than a week old.

Firefox remembering open tabs

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I can confirm that Firefox can indeed do this. You can also easily bookmark all the open tabs.

i know EXACTLY what you mean.

not the link, though.

The story? The 30 open browser windows?

Date: 2005-01-26 08:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lunarennui.livejournal.com
both. i've usually got at least 15 open browser windows, most of which are stories i plan to read, and at least one of which i'm halfway through. and then i can never remember all of them when my computer randomly reboots.

Yeah, I keep trying to get through the browser windows to the point where I can maybe quit Safari and relaunch it, but it never seems to get there until a) it up and quits or b) I have to board a plane and have no choice but to shut it down.

I do the same thing...I run my computers for a minimum of a month at a time, leaving several browser windows open. Each browser window has at least six to fifteen tabs open in it. Shutting down is a huge pain...I have to go through and save all the URLs of stuff I was half-done reading or wanting to use as later reference. It takes me at least an hour just to get ready to shut down. :=)

Caligraphy's story was wonderful...I was just re-reading it this morning. I don't understand how it didn't make it into the final round.

Ah, you know exactly where I'm coming from! Shut-downs are such trauma.

And here I am, with Calligraphy's wonderful story open in a window and I'm STILL putting off reading it to do other things! What's my problem, I ask you?

Browser Windows

I saw this post and I may have a solution for you, [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1 and [livejournal.com profile] lunarennui. I use a browser called Maxthon because I like to have several windows open at a time. If you set the options correctly, it will automatically save all the windows when your computer shuts down accidentally. As a safety precaution, I like to save all of my windows as a group when I shut my computer once or twice a month, and I have it set up so that it asks me if I really want to shut Maxthon down. I really like it, and it's shareware, so you don't have to pay anything unless you want to donate.

Very cool! I would like it if Safari (which I use) had such a function. Maxthon doesn't appear to be available for the Macintosh, darn.

So Lonely without Me, by Caligraphy.

One of the MOST delicious Snape's ever. I can't *believe* it didn't make it into the finals. It is fabulous!
