A few bits of stuff:

"Ne Shastliviy Vospominaniya." That's Russian for No Happy Memories, and I should know--check out my newest fic-in-translation, thanks to Ireena/Glorydale! Zdyeys (here)...

What's with this? "Escape From Azkaban, end of July 2004"? Hey! We've been talking about Convention Alley for months now; no fair! I love Disney World! Crap. Wonder if all the C.A.'ers would want to--eh, forget it. *pouts*

And it was Song Lyrics as a theme in the Drabble chatroom.

Lucius/Harry, "The water is wide, I can't cross o'er / and neither have I wings to fly." (challenge by [livejournal.com profile] sparrohawk)

Thirty paces by twenty paces.

Those are the measurements of the length and breadth of the island upon which Lucius Malfoy now resides. At its widest points.

They gave him an island in a tropical climate, and furnished it with a four-walled dwelling, for which he is glad. Not grateful. One is not grateful for exile, even when it is the alternate sentence to death, when one's exile is an island thirty paces by twenty paces.

Even in isolation, he does not forget how to manipulate other human beings. So when one of his enemies begins unauthorized apparations to his island, unable to resist a face-to-face taunt, Lucius brings all his charm to bear, and before long, those visits have a completely different purpose.

Each kiss, each caress, each moan from Potter's mouth is worth another ten paces of earth to him. In both dimensions.

Ron/Draco -- "you're just like a pill 'stead of makin' me better you're makin' me ill" (challenge by [livejournal.com profile] dragon_light)

"You're sure you don't want to sleep in the other bedroom?" Ron said, coughing.

"Don't be an arse." Draco kissed him. "I want to be here with you. Besides, I almost never get sick."

"Yeah, I've noticed that." Another cough. "But I might keep you up all night."

"No." Draco licked his lower lip in a style that would make a dead man come. "I'll be keeping YOU up all night."

Despite himself, Ron grinned. Then sobered. "This has been really hard to shake. I don't seem to be getting better."

"I'm taking you to the healer tomorrow, then. Should have done it last week, but you refused to go! No more refusing."

"I--oh, all right. You worry too much.

Draco wasn't worried at all. The healer wouldn't find anything.

White hellebore was almost entirely untraceable.

And Draco had built up the tolerance so carefully.

He kissed Ron again.

Snape/Lupin. Reach out your hand if your cup be empty/ If your cup is full may it be again (challenge by [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo)

"I shall make you a deal," says Snape.

Lupin blinks. "A bet?"

"A deal. You answer me one question truthfully, and I will make the Wolfsbane for you while you are at Hogwarts."

"Dumbledore said--"

"Fuck that meddling old man. He has taken both of us in, so we are on even ground. You answer my question truthfully, or I don't make the potion."

"Veritaserum?" Lupin says quietly.

"Unnecessary. Just look me in the eye when you answer, wolf: What would you have done, had you bitten me on that night? Killed me and hidden the body? Killed yourself? Would you have done anything that would have allowed your dear Black to suffer his deserved consequences?"

Lupin stares helplessly.

Then he answers, but not with words.

Snape is the first to break the kiss, spitting.

The wolfsbane arrives on schedule the first month, popping and steaming in its goblet.

Snape/Harry "Some wild idea in a big white bed, Now you know better than that, I said" (challenge by [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl)

He could purchase black sheets. Or crimson.

But what would be the point of that? Snape wants evidence that Potter was there.

Evidence that Potter comes to him at night, shivering, looking for understanding that does not diguise itself as sympathy.

For enlightenment that does not disguise itself as security.

A moment's release that does not disguise itself as comfort.

The bloodstains are there every night, no matter how much lubricant, how much preparation they use.

And in the bright white light of day, they are sometimes the only evidence of their encounters that Snape thinks he has.

For memory is false. As false as sympathy and security and comfort.

Snape/Draco, "Finish him with simple laissez-faire" (challenge by [livejournal.com profile] goseaward)

"Another one of 'em! Over here!"

Snape watches the men coalesce about another fallen form.

"Only a boy, he is!"

"Boy my arse. He's got the mark, all right."

The speaker has dragged the victim's arm up so that all can see. Snape can just see the boy's face as it lolls to one side. The mouth parts slightly, and moans.

"Kill 'im here. Filthy Death Eater."

"No reason to bring him in, is there?"

Snape knows that if Draco wakes, and sees him, there is every likelihood the boy will betray him. The glamour that disguises Snape's own arm will not survive close inspection.

Better to stay silent.

Blemishes of grey are emerging behind slitted eyelids as the men raise their wands.

"Stop." Snape recognizes his own voice. The men look up.

"The boy is a spy for the Order of the Phoenix. As am I."

Fool, fool, fool.

But my fav's the last one. It has inspired me hugely, you wouldn't mind whether I borrow this idea will you? I'll change it around of course, but the idea of Snape covering for Draco is too delicious.

Alright! THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! Some nice amanuensis drabbles to kick my weekend off!! If only they were sold in stores . . .

Gold stars to the Lucius/Harry - gorgeous, vibrant imagery; Snape/Lupin - beautiful, yet so succinct, and exactly what a drabble should strive to be, telling a whole story in just a few sentences; and Snape/Draco - broke my little heart.

As always, wonder-wonderful!

Your drabbles make my heart go pitter-pat. I am amazed by the complex story arcs you can fit into a few hundred words.

The Lucius/Harry, for example, is a fine snapshot of our blond boy's deliciously conniving mind. There he sits on his island like a spider in a web, 30 paces X 20 paces in circumference, waiting for Harry to come to him like a despoiled little fly. *nibbles Lucius appreciatively*

Draco takes after his dad, bitter little pill that he is. And poor Ron is caught, hacking and wheezing, in his sticky web. Love/hate is such a slashy pair.

It seems that Snape's cup runneth over with bile and longing when he's with Lupin. The way he spits after breaking the kiss is worse than a slap. It's a gesture of contempt... but for whom?

As always, the Snarry was wrenching. A moment's release that does not disguise itself as comfort is what they both want, isn't it? Because they've both discovered that the only truth is the absence of Truth. Whether referring to cathartic Snapesex or or Dumbledore's empty platitudes, the "bloodstains are there every night, no matter how much lubricant, how much preparation they use." On the bed, in the heart, the pain, the "truth," can't be ameliorated by lubricating words or oils. Life (and death) is what it is.

The final drabble. Oh, Snape. Another heroic gesture that will get lost in the shuffle. Because in a war waged by shiny Gryffindors, no one cares about one slimy Slytherin in love.

2. Oh, that bastard! "I have spent the last three years building up an immunity to Iocane Chapstick...."

3. *siiighhhh* L'amour.

4. Lovely, nasty imagery. Perhaps a little rougher than I like, but... nasty. And lovely. Although Snape had obviously better start preparing that Alzheimer's cure. Cue Raul Julia: "Ma! MY nuts!?" (... I hadn't thought about it until just now, but he would've made an interesting Snape, wouldn't he...?)

5. Plans within plans within plans... and a quote from Little Shop! "Though I giggle and I chortle, bear in mind I'm not immortal...."

Wah ha ha! Lessee, first of all I love Granny Smith apples, so this is particularly apt. (Them and Macintoshes. Given my computer are you surprised?)

I had to squelch the impulse to make the poison Iocane in the first place; went to the 'net instead and looked up appropriate-sounding poison herbs. And, ooh, poison chapstick; it gives me reminiscences of Get Smart and Gilligan's Island and Superman Comics.

And now I'll be watching Overdrawn At The Memory Bank (isn't it SAD that that's the Raul Julia movie I watch more than any other? "When loving lovers looooove...") with an eye on how Raul would have said, "Mr. Potter. Our new celebrity."

*still resents the film of Little Shop for cutting It's Just the Gas, not to mention Mushnik and Son*

Hello there! Haven't been to your drabble nights in a while, have I. ;)

Lucius/Harry - Ummm....:-? I'm torn between treating the end as a metaphore and treating it literally. If it's a metaphore, then dude, you've just written Lucius/Harry fluff, and all that comes with it. If it's for real, which is the probable option, then, huh? How the hell...?

Ron/Draco - Ooooh, SO my favourite this time! So delicate and cruel and obvious and NOT obvious at the same time. Draco as a beautiful, lethal weapon out for Weasley blood in some very intriguing ways. And aw, Ron...:(((

Snape/Lupin - Aw! That is so cute, in a, er, perversed kind of way. Um. Yeah. Loved it nontheless. :D

Snape/Harry - Heheheheh, fitting for Snape to think such poetic bullshit that's so achingly true. It gives me naughty images about a virginal yet experienced Harry conming every night for comfort yet uncomfortable release, and it's intricate and beautiful and DUDE STOP MAKING ME LIKE SNARRY IT'S BAD FOR THE SOUL. I swear it, there's a special department in hell for evil beautiful smut writers like you. >:D

Snape/Draco - That's a weird one. So he likes him or not? I know it's supposed to be a "yes" but er, it doesn't sound like that.

Dude, fix the coding. You have 2 drabbles in bold font. :) And I'd've offered to translate your fics to my mother language a long time ago if I hadn't found the slashy terms in it utterly repulsive. I'll try anyway.

*snorts over icon!*

Let's see...sure, it could be fluff! It could also be that Lucius is evil and calculating and likes revenge more than he likes real estate, and is going to use Harry to secure his escape...whatever you want it to be!

I know, I know, poor Ron! It's so sad. Maybe he'll be saved. But then, that would mean Draco will be found out and punished! And Draco doesn't really love Ron! It's so not nice. Pooh.

and it's intricate and beautiful and DUDE STOP MAKING ME LIKE SNARRY IT'S BAD FOR THE SOUL.
*dies laughing*

Oh, Snape is letting his unrequited heart jerk him around like a trout--thinking he'll cover for Draco and knowing it depends on Draco not giving away his status as (former) Death Eater and hoping he'll be believed and knowing it's so stupid to care about Draco that much. Poor bastard.

Eep, I fixed the coding within twenty seconds of the first posting! I always check my posts right after. What do you do, have a "refresh friendspage" function on your browser every 10 sec.? Actually, that makes me feel better, knowing someone might beat me out on lj addiction. ^_^

Slashy terms? Tell me tell me!

[livejournal.com profile] isiscolo was emminently correct in reccing your drabbles specially. I can't tell you how sorry I am I missed this Friday night, even though I had a wonderful celebration out.

These were all so incredibly good -- all of them -- but I do think my favorites are the Ron/Draco, Severus/Harry and the Snape/Draco. They spoke more in 150 words or less than most people's full-blown stories do. Hell, what a thing to read on Sunday morning! I don't want to read anything else now, for awhile. I just want to absorb.

Normally, while all of your drabbles are good, one or two in each set hit me the most. Here I can't even choose which ones I like the best - they're all amazing: Lucius and his charm, Draco and his Princess-Bride-esque creeptastic tolerance, Snape spitting out the kiss, memory equating to sympathy and comfort, and Snape's self-destructive tendencies. About the translation, though, I just wanted to point out that the current title leans closer toward being "Not Happy Memories." Anyway, I read it, and it had me crying just like the original. I rarely cry, but the way it was crafted and the language just did me in. It's funny that Xena and Hercules helped me learn English when I first came to America, and now slash is helping me relearn Russian!

I rarely write, preferring to revel in the brilliant works of the other slashers, but would you mind if I friended you?

Oh, you dear sweet thing, you! (No need to ask about friending--I have a very open friending policy.) Thank you so much for all this--I can hardly think of what to thank you for first! Being moved by the story, making me feel my stories' translations are providing a useful service (hee!)...
