Aha! Now I can say how bloody marvellous I think this little story is! Snape as stage manager/wardrobe mistress, Lucius as the man-about-town having fun in the green room before the show, and Harry... Poor little Harry, looking like a doll, so perfect, so immaculate, so prepared by the showman to be victimised by the audience, unreconciled, but unable to resist.
I kept thinking of those beautiful harlequin dolls, do you have them? Elegant in silk, perfect makeup, with a crystal tear on one cheek. Purely ornamental.
The ballet shoes really did something for me, too, though I think it's because I associate them with real ballet dancers and the contrast between how beautiful they look, up on pointes, and the agony they feel and the damage they do themselves for this wonderful effect.
