So, I get home, I'm exhausted, thinking going to bed early sounds good.

I check my friendslist.

Darn you, [livejournal.com profile] mctabby.

My treatment of her Summary Executions XIV is here and here.

I truly hope that you find the MSTing a fun thing. I am filled with such admiration for you finding such clever out-of-context statements...I know that in some cases, the stories themselves may not be dreadful and the summaries may be meant to be funny (like, a FEW, she said, remembering the "Harry really came to my band class!" one *shudders*), but it's your collection of them that is brilliant, not to mention time-consuming. You just make it so EASY for us to be funny by setting them up that way. And I hope you don't think I'm trying to steal any of your thunder--it's just that I cannot HELP myself, they're just too damn temptingly wonderful for me NOT to get my regular MSTing urges satisfied on 'em. I love you soooooooo much for these!

Posting the latest batch made me remember I hadn't replied to this very kind note of yours.

Yes, that's why I post the summaries - because reading everyone's comments and MSTs is so entertaining! All this started back in March when I was scrolling through a long list of fics at FictionAlley one day and... well, some of them made me snicker helplessly, or scratch my head in bewilderment, or just twitch for inexplicable reasons. So I had an impulse to copy a few and share them on LJ. It became a habit. :D I scrolled through all the fics on Schnoogle, The Dark Arts, and Astronomy Tower, picking out the eyebrow-raising summaries; the first six batches of Executions are entirely from FA, I think. Then I started keeping a file of summaries, and copy/pasting whenever I found an interesting one at any archive. Most come from FA, FF.net, AdultFanFiction.net, and the irresistible wilderness that is harrypotterfanfiction.com. (The last of these has no age limits for authors. There are 11-year-olds writing there. Mmm, instant summary bonanza!) I also visit other archives. Not mourning the demise of Gryffindor Tower - it had dull summaries, but the other Harry/Ginny archive (Sink Into Your Eyes) occasionally produces gems.

Indeed, not all the fics are badfics. Many a good fic has a summary that's infested with Nargles (I suspect that summaries get left out of the beta-reading process). But I usually avoid humor fics, unless the summary's truly exceptional. *cough*wereflamingoe*cough* The ones that delight me most are the memorable malapropisms and divinely-inspired typos in perfectly serious summaries. I also have a fondness for truly striking chutzpah or naivete on the part of authors.

Anyway, thank you for reading - and for adding your perverted wit to the last few batches of summaries. I'm only too happy to feed your MSTing urges. Hope you have fun with batch 15! *leers in anticipation*

AWWW! Thank you for the lovely reply! I loved hearing the history of this and getting the idea of how you find them. I think I will have to check out harrypotterfanfiction.com just to see for myself.

And I'm glad you liked the slightly different inspiration I had for this one!

Do you see just what a fabulous public service you do by compiling these, BTW? The amount of response--hilarous response, to this one in particular!--is STAGGERING. 'S wonderful!
