amanuensis1: (Write fics)
[personal profile] amanuensis1
Me on the phone with the S.O. when I was at Walt Disney World a couple of weeks ago:

Me: I CANNOT WRITE MY FEST FIC ALL MY IDEAS SUCK.
S.O.: There are days when it seems like that, doesn't it?
Me: BUT I HATE ALL MY IDEAS. I AM AT THE POOL WITH MY NOTEBOOK AND NOTHING'S WORKING. I CANNOT MAKE ANYBODY KISS MUCH LESS BOINK.
S.O: Breathe, honey. Ideas come when you're not trying to force them.
Me: ...I'm going for a swim.
S.O.: Very wise.
Me: *swims*
Me: *thinks of non-fic things*
Me: *remembers funny scene from a comedy movie, gets idea, writes the fic outline in head while dodging pool floats and kids*
Me: *emerges from pool, goes for phone*
Me: ...I may have something.
S.O.: See?
Me: ...I'm gonna go ride Space Mountain again.
S.O.: Also very wise.
Me: *takes notebook to Magic Kingdom, rides Space Mountain eight times, writes first third of fic while waiting in line between rides*
Me: I figured out how to get to the kissing part during one of my rides!
S.O.: I'm pretty sure you were the only one in your rocketship trying to get Avengers to kiss in your head.
Me: But probably not in the park.
S.O: Disney does own Marvel, after all.

So I owe at least one fest fic to Space Mountain. And the good advice of the S.O.

Space Mountain induces giddy feelings and those are conducive to sexywritins! ^_^

He really is right. Actual writing is best done by putting one's butt in the chair and writing--that's how one of the fest fics this year evolved from a little idea to a full "oh, I know where to take this now!" fic--but getting an idea comes best when walking, swimming, doing yoga...just not forcing it, but letting the day bring you ideas.

Yeah. I get ideas while I'm driving, at the gym, doing housework, and so on... but to develop and DO them, I've got to sit down and crunch it out.

Hee! I hope you indicate which fic was that post-fest season. :) *is curious!*

I absolutely will! Nothing about the fic involves Space Mountain, but it was conducive to thinking and inventing, 'cos it's thrilling.

It's still there! And I love the music, and the atmosphere (no pun intended), and the speed, and the yelling of the other passengers, and knowing every spiral and drop that's coming. I really, really, really do.

There had to have been slashgirls. The place is HUGE, after all. (Some of them wearing Avengers gear! Including me!)
