Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters trailer

I came home in Too Licked To LJ/Too Tired To Tumblr mode and went straight for a nap rather than the computer. Which means THIS has been out for hours and I DIDN'T KNOW, o the chaotic unfairness of the universe:

Omigod, it looks like a version of Van Helsing that actually gets the joke! That recognizes Shoot 'Em Up Action Fantasy film is a camp genre. (Which Van Helsing failed to do. Yes, I'm still bitter over that film.) Yay that this looks intentionally funny. Bring it!

Heee, this looks like fun. I'm a sucker for any interpretation of that story, too--it's always been one of my favorite fairy tales.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
It actually isn't one of my favorite fairy tales, so, that's okay because I have no preconceived boundaries that they must not violate, 'n' stuff. ^_^ I didn't expect it to be poking fun at itself, even though I probably should have anticipated that--but I am very pleased that it is!

Oh. That looks like so much fun! And yea. Camp is the only way to do shoot em ups. My only complaint is that the girl has the bow and not Clint.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
I predict that Avengers fanfiction will soon have a new nickname for Tony to call Clint. "Listen, Gretel..." :D

Seriously I'm going through Renner withdrawal right now. I NEED MY FIX.

PICTURES PICTURES GIFS. It must sustain us!

[identity profile] tealightwhimsy.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
I am incredibly bitter about Van Helsing, as well. Same with Brothers Grimm (grrr...). This looks fun, though!

BTW - did I tell you that you successfully brainwa--- er...convinced me (regarding Renner)? You're merciless! ;-)

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I started writing this post and realized, "You cannot just rant on for three paragraphs about how much you hated Van Helsing for building up your expectations and having dreadful dialogue and rotten plotting/pacing and no sense of humor, NO ONE LIKES A WHINER." But, yeah, that's it in a nutshell.

And, YAY! JOIIIIN UUUUSSS--oh, wait, you have! *hugs*

[identity profile] tealightwhimsy.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, but I Definitely understand! Every time I think of Kate Beckinsale's character saying, "I've never seen the sea..." I want to break something!

Yay! Renner hugs all around!

[identity profile] inamac.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Love the hardware! It does look fun, but Oh Dear! Gretel's accent! What on earth is a girl from Gravesend doing with a down home Southern US drawl that's going to make even Americans laugh her off the screen?

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, but I love Gemma Arterton so much that if the accent doesn't work I'm just gonna blame the director. ^_^

[identity profile] lazy-neutrino.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
I've just discovered him (missed a LOT this year, but spent The Bourne Legacy going mmmmm). Life is very good.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
I was going NUTS waiting for this trailer. It came just when I needed it!

Oh dear. I feel I need this in my life.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't expect it to be poking fun at itself but all of a sudden I have a perspective for this film I didn't have, and I LIKE it. :D

[identity profile] ariadneelda.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oooooooh. Renner looks even sexier than usual in this, y/y? :D

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
"even sexier"

I do not understand what this phrase means in relation to the cluster of hotness that is The Renner. *blink blink*

(But, for real, yeah! He looks like he's going to get to play some humor again, yayyy!)

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, yes, Van Helsing was so disappointing on a vast number of levels. I even made it the subject of one of my Bullet Point Reviews. (http://valis2.livejournal.com/27925.html) I was looking forward to that movie SO much and then when I saw it, I just...could not believe the fail.

And yay! More Renner! This looks tasty!!

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
*reads your whole bullet-pointed post with glee* Oh, MAN, you did have serious misery for that film, didn't you. I can't even remember it well enough to know if I agree with all of your points, but it was so dratted disappointing. There are about three things I recall standing out for me: the dialogue was inane (there's this one point where a vampire bride seizes the heroine and flies her around and sneers, "Do you like to fly?" and I went WHAT what does that even MEAN, that isn't a pun or some airplane joke because they don't have airplanes, why is that line even THERE), the pacing was dull, and they just kept meandering about (they kept coming back to the village after every scene; why would they just keep going back there to regroup, this is a FILM, not a tabletop rpg, just GO WHERE THE ACTION IS, for crying out loud).

[identity profile] valis2.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I was so in disbelief as I watched that movie. I don't even know what I'm talking about in some of the points, lol, it was so long ago and I've blocked it out of my head, seriously. I TOTALLY remember the absolutely awful dialogue, though, that it was painful to listen to. *shudders*

[identity profile] shadoedseptmbr.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I am anticipating the truly twisted, glorious fic that is going to spring from this movie, but I'm glad to go into it knowing there's going to be humor. And Renner with a thigh-holster. Yeah.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2012-09-05 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep thinking I might end up with an(other) incest 'ship in my OTPs after this, 'cos I love Arterton and I'm already drooling over thigh-holster Renner. :D

"a version of Van Helsing that actually gets the joke! That recognizes Shoot 'Em Up Action Fantasy film is a camp genre."

THIS. This so much. I was going to see this anyway (because Renner), but having rewatched the trailer with that interpretation in mind just makes the movie a lot more awesome. Now I have something to be excited about while waiting for the UK DVD release of Avengers and the new Hawkeye solo :)

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2012-09-12 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
I can imagine that there will be parts that are more seriously presented but the fact that they went into self-poking humor at all with the trailer is a fabulous sign. YES!
