I come away from that terribly interesting and fun episode of Doctor Who written by Neil Gaiman with the main thought that the Doctor is absolutely right about BUNKBEDS. I was in a hotel recently with huge huge guestrooms, and there was this alcove-y thing near the entryway of each and in it were full-sized bunkbeds for the kids! And a little TV in the alcove! So that Mom and Dad can have the real beds and big TV in the main part of the room and not have to share. And we walked in, and there were only two of us going to be staying in the room so it's not like we needed the space, but I pointed to that top bunk and said, "MY bed." BUNKBEDS.

Of course the Doctor is right!

My father made the bunk beds that my sister and I had as kids, and there is something awesome about being able to climb a ladder to get into bed (and then, in pirate fashion, to pull it up after you!)

A bed that is WAY HIGH UP ABOVE THE WHOLE ROOM. How can you not love it?

ALWAYS WANTED THEM.

My cousin got his two boys bunk beds and I visit every now and then and the day I helped him set it up it took all I had NOT TO CLAIM THE TOP AS MINE. (It was very sad.)

I have it on good authority that the reason Loki was so jealous of Thor in Norse mythology is that Thor got the top bunk. *nods authoritatively*

My sister had bunkbeds and there was something quite special about getting to sleep on the bottom bunk, let alone the top! They are still so very made of win! (although it's much harder to make the bed up ...)

Heh, I never had to make up a bunkbed, so, maybe my opinion would change if I had to. NO, I DON'T THINK SO.

*nods firmly* I had my bed lofted freshman year of college. We did need the space, but mostly it was because BUNKBEDS! except not, because my desk was underneath, but LADDER!

I loved the loft beds I saw in some of the dorms! They were terrific.

I HAD the top bunkbed!

Well, mainly 'cause the sib has never liked heights, but still I had it. :D

Doesn't matter how you get it! In fact, it's great that you got your first choice and there were no resentments 'cos your sib didn't want it. ^_^

My nieces have bunkbeds--although they get taken apart during the summer because the top bunk get really hot--and I love them. I never had them as a kid. My brother hates making them but I still think they are cool!

I imagine that they wouldn't be good for people who wake up and sit up quickly (HEADBANG OUCH) but otherwise I love them!

My kids have them; they're awesome-fun, and they're good for conserving space, too.

I had a loft bed as a kid! Damn thing was homemade and wobbled alarmingly.

That would make me nervous, I admit.

My kid has a loft bed and I don't even like climbing on top of it to get the sheets off, though it isn't that high off the ground. I don't like heights of any kind!

That's a little bit of a height, yeah; I can see it being distressing.

They were both right. I thought Amy's thread in this was interesting, and the way she asserted her adulthood against his infantilizing her, in the context of this very meta episode, was - I liked it. But point taken! Just thoughts inspired by it. That hotel room sounds AWESOME.

I love the many and varied reactions to this episode, I do. (And yeah, totally wonderful hotel room right onna beach. I want to go back there!)

Hey,

I was rereading some old fanfic favorites yesterday, haha, and thought I'd drop a note to say I really enjoy your writing. :P Since I decided to get an LJ again, I thought I'd friend you. Hope that's okay! :)
