Death Note weave-in-and-out threadfic, the way I've always wanted it. All the moments about Light, and Light about L, and LightandL, that I wanted to feel to their depths, canon-compliant and done perfectly.

I really really need to watch Death Note...

I've been told to go for the live-action films over the anime, though.

I disagree; the live-action films do a great job of adapting the series into two two-hour films, difficult a job as that is, but I adore the anime so much more. The structure of the anime is richer, though a lot of folk don't agree with that, and prefer the more predictable early wrap-up of the live-action. (And that includes a number of people whose opinions I respect.) But I think the structure choices made by the anime are brilliant, and urge folk to choose the anime over the manga or the live-actions for their first exposure.

I happened to read the manga first and don't regret it 'cause I found it completely captivating and it's what made me fall in love with DN. I just wish I could temporarily erase my memory and have that first exposure experience with the anime, too, (which I also loved to bits) and then compare the two experiences. It'd be interesting. :D (I didn't like the live-actions as much, btw, though I did enjoy them.)

Anyway! Basically, I wanted to thank you for the rec. *adds to my to-read list*

The manga's wonderful; it's the original source, after all. I love a few particular additions they made to the anime series, though (the rain scene, of course), and having the music there to moodily propel everything along is a real joy for me.
