Yay, thank you! I saw the revival cast on stage, but I did't have a recording so far, so this is greatly appreciated :) Maya Hakvoort is by far my favourite Elisabeth, and although I was rather underwhelmed by Mate Karamas' Death, Serkan Kaya's performance was beyond awesome :)

I adore Mate but I didn't expect to fall so hard as I did for Serkan. He's wonderful and adorable.

Yes, this part really kick-started his career - he became the big star of the production, which I guess nobody had expected before :)

*g* It's in English too, which is handy, and has a crazed Jesus (who I saw in les Mis in London :D) and the Franz Josef from the Mate-Elisabeth DVD as Pilate :)

Will try and get it uploaded over the weekend, if I can find where I stashed it :) Serkan also did the Queen show We Will Rock You, but really, prefer him as Judas.

Ohhh this is so wonderful, thanks for sharing!! I only have the album, but not as full as this one. It was such a wonderful musical.

Definitely taking! :-D

I saw it life in 2004, and then worked in the Sisi Musuem last year in the summer. Elisabeth has one fucked up history.

Ohh the word Bethfreaks sounds cool.

Ooh! Hope it's okay if I grab this; I learned about the musical in a completely backwards manner (through the Takarazuka version, of all things) and I don't think I've ever heard the whole thing in its proper language.

Elisabeth has been on my "want to see/listen" list ever since Terminus. Thank you! :D

What is Elisabeth about? Bathory?

I would be interested except German is far removed from being a language I enjoy to listen to.

It's about the Austrian/Hungarian Empress Elisabeth, who was married to Kaiser Franz Josef. Her wiki page is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elisabeth_of_Bavaria

I have little patience for musicals with crap musical numbers; Elisabeth keeps me rapt even though I don't speak a word of German.

(Y'know how I describe this musical to English-speaking people who don't know it? It's the Austrian Evita.)

Know nothing about Evita, so, uh... *hides in shame*

It has nothing to do with understanding the language. It's just that certain languages frequently have sounds, or cadences, that just rub me the wrong way. German and Mandarin are the two big ones.

*pops in* - character-wise, it's like the Austrian Princess Diana, only without the nice mental stability Diana had. Really, generations of inbred family did little for her sanity. Not to mention the anorexia, the paranoia and various other psychological problems...

That's the other comparison I make, when selling it to English-speakers! "They called her Sissi, like we called Diana Princess Di. And story-wise there's a lot of the same of that, what with her conflicting with her mother-in-law, wanting to raise her children herself, etc." That often gets an "Ah!" of understanding.

Although, fortunately, Diana's mother-in-law wasn't also her aunt ;) Plus, poor old Sisi had the wonderful legacy of mental illness. Her cousin was the mad King of Bavaria who commissioned the building of the castle which was used in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang because he loved fairytales and magic.

And the song "An Der Deck den Sinkenden Welt" (probably spelled wrong) is just such a graphic list of why her life went on a downwards spiral of death and disaster too.

(Although, how cool would it be to have a dad who insisted on teaching you circus riding tricks? :D)

(Also, also, my icon is from the Japanese production. That Death spent a good 15 seconds making out with Rudolf (while dating the lady who was playing Elisabeth :D))

Aww, come on! Ludwig II was fun, as far as demented monarchs go! And he prompted You Higuri to draw a lovely manga, too! We must at least thank him for that.

(Also, is there any European monarch about whose life Takarazuka hasn't done a musical of? Just curious...)

I won't deny he was... interesting ;)

(*thinks* Elizabeth I? Although apparently, there's now a musical about Mary Queen of Scots in french, I believe)

I don't know the musical, except parenthetically, through Takarazuka clips, but I love German-language music and am also interested in Empress Elisabeth, who was one brilliant, kickass, fucked up woman.

Mmmm, I love this musical. Mate Karamas being the main reason for that, but... yeah. DEATH! ♥

Mate's Death, and his interaction with Rudolf in Die Schatten Werden Langer, were what got me into this musical. But then I fell in love with the music itself, too!

The musical is great, especially since I have two other musical addicts on my f-list who keep feeding me these Takarazuka clips form YouTube and stuff. There's no prettier Deaths than the Japanese cross-dressing Deaths... but Mate is very much handsome, and me likes. XD

You must also listen to Tanz der Vampire, where Herbert can be the flamboyant gay vampire if they get the actors right. *cackles*

*g* One doesn't always get it at first. Unless of course one has already seen the stupid Roman Polanski film (USA title says it all), in which case one usually knows that nothing in the musical should be taken seriously. XD
