Date: 2008-09-03 10:41 pm (UTC)I would be interested except German is far removed from being a language I enjoy to listen to.

Date: 2008-09-03 10:44 pm (UTC)I have little patience for musicals with crap musical numbers; Elisabeth keeps me rapt even though I don't speak a word of German.
(Y'know how I describe this musical to English-speaking people who don't know it? It's the Austrian Evita.)

Date: 2008-09-03 10:56 pm (UTC)It has nothing to do with understanding the language. It's just that certain languages frequently have sounds, or cadences, that just rub me the wrong way. German and Mandarin are the two big ones.

Date: 2008-09-04 10:22 am (UTC)And the song "An Der Deck den Sinkenden Welt" (probably spelled wrong) is just such a graphic list of why her life went on a downwards spiral of death and disaster too.
(Although, how cool would it be to have a dad who insisted on teaching you circus riding tricks? :D)
(Also, also, my icon is from the Japanese production. That Death spent a good 15 seconds making out with Rudolf (while dating the lady who was playing Elisabeth :D))
