I think that, feeling like his time as producer is going to an end, RTD wanted to indulge a bit, so he made a great melting pot (a crucible) of everything he created or supervised in the last 4 years. So it's a bit overwhelming at times. Besides, I must say that I'm fed up with overwhelming armies of Daleks in the season finales. Midnight and Turn Left was both far superior episodes. Still, let's see what'll happen next week.
