One of the times I didn't mind the lack of subtitling, 'cos the English voices are SEXY!

Secondary to some very pretty artwork by [livejournal.com profile] rexluscus, I watched the anime of Pet Shop of Horrors--homg, I can see why this thing is a slashgirl's dream. There's only one OTP, one guy's bishounen-pretty and wily while the other's buff and suspicious, and while they're not actually doing it they're about one come-hither look away. And from what the anime demonstrates, the fanfiction must tend to follow the same structure as the episodes, so, you know what yer getting.

I liked it so much I watched it again the very next day. Who wants to point me to the good fanfiction?

Hee! That's so funny -- I just watched the anime the other day too.

I love, love, love PSOH. I'm at work, so I don't have any of my good links here, but I'll see if I can dig them up when I get home. There are some really good fanfics out there.

The Count is everything I could want. Mmm!

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in this frame of mind where I could write one right now, without having read any, but I think I'd rather look to see what's been done first. ^_^

Telanu has some, and Luthien. Here are Rex's recs: http://rexluscus.livejournal.com/183498.html

Rex herself has some short fics and drabbles.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, nifty! You're awesome. ^_^

[identity profile] ook.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
In PSoH fics, you can just swap out the name Snape for D and Remus (or Harry) for Leon. ;)

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, no, I don't see that. Snape is moody while the Count is playful, Remus is calm while Leon's a bit of a hothead. I see a different dynamic! :D

[identity profile] dancing-moon.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, once you read the manga you find even more good slashy angles to pair them together. Also, the opportunity for post-series work opens up and becomes really tempting

I can't remember from the anime, but are there any D-orgasms-from-dessert-shots? Because they are Good ^_^

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a NOISE that the Count makes when Leon brings him something delectable, before he's even tasted the thing, that's pretty eye-popping of a moment! ^_^

[identity profile] dancing-moon.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh, good =) Those scenes are just so wonderful in the manga. Especially when somene else tempts D away from Leon with better sweets, and he goes all "But... but... *sad-puppy-look*"

[identity profile] ook.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I think Snape can be plenty playful if he wants to. And I think of Leon as more of the Harry type anyway. :)

Not fic, sadly, but I can give you the additional joy that is recent Petshop news- though the manga wrapped up a few years back, our darlings are returning soon! The mangaka is starting up a sequel, and the squeeing is heard 'round the world. Me, I just can't wait to see what D turns up WEARING.

If you write Petshop fic I will love you EVEN MORE FOREVER omgyus

Hi.
*steps out of lurking for a moment*
You can watch P.S.O.H. here at Youtube.

I also recommend reading the Manga.
The manlove undertones are ever so wonderful.
Enjoy!
Which episode was your favorite?

[identity profile] delfeus.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, the manga is lots better than the OVA. The anime has only about the first volume of the manga... the manga is 10 volumes, and there's a new series after it with at least 2 volumes out in Japanese. The first series is out in English from Tokyopop and definitely worth a read.

[livejournal.com profile] richelieu's fics are the best I've seen - Unwilling Sleep is my fave, but you shouldn't read it until you've read the manga, as it has heavy spoilers for vol 10 - it starts right after that. I'm not sure how much you can understand without reading the manga anyway... you don't really know anything about Count D if you've just seen the OVa. You really should read the manga, as there are some amazing chapters that tell more of him. One of my faves is the one where he and lean and some others are on a lake after some "treasure"... it's amazing. And the dragon one is awesome for anyone shipping Leon/D. And Dessert for any slasher, as it has canon slash. And so on. XD Volume 10 is the ultimate best. ♥ *points at icon*

You probably don't even "get" my layout if you haven't read the manga. ;)

[identity profile] delfeus.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm... those can't be very good PSoH fics, then. ^_^' There's nothing androgynous about Snape, and he's not particularly animal & Nature loving, etc.

...here:
http://telanu.thirteenblackbirds.net/psoh.html

It amused me greatly when I discovered the site after long squeeing over Unwilling Sleep on ffnet (until it was deleted for NC-17 content) and realized that Richelieu and Telanu are the same person. XD

[identity profile] delfeus.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, Dessert is probably my fave chapter! Or one of them at least. XD I made my friend scan it for me just so I could make icons if I wanted. XD And could read it without digging up the manga.

[identity profile] delfeus.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
There are two or three volumes of Shin Pet Shop of Horrors out in Japanese, but it seems that there's still no Leon. :/ There's apparently another interesting character to replace him, though... I've read only 4ish chapters of it, as I got fed up with the missing Leon. :/ I'll buy them when Tokyopop publishes them in Japanese, though.

[identity profile] dancing-moon.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
*lols at the thought of D's reaction to students cutting up slugs for potions*

And Remus as Leon? Remus, passive, "stable" Remus who doesn't really dare criticize his friends? Nooo... If it had been Sirius, I would be slightly more inclined to agree. But not really

[identity profile] asyndeta.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Warning - fangirling ahead!

To join the chorus: if you even somewhat enjoyed the anime, you HAVE to read the manga. Like whoa. I thought the anime was okay but the manga is just....stupid awesome by comparison. As you might expect, the characters are SO much deeper and more three-dimensional, and there are lashings of the not-quite-but-almost slash you mentioned. If you want it quickly and don't mind not paying for stuff, you can download it here (http://www.mangatraders.com/files/manga/pet_shop_of_horrors).

*goes to check out the recs*

[identity profile] delfeus.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
*LOL* XDD Oh gods!

Yeah, I agree! But Sirius wouldn't realluy work, either. I don't know, I can't really see any comparison in between PSoH and HP. *shrug*

Have you read Kodaka Kazuma's Sex Therapist? It's clearly based on PSoH and the main character even looks like a mixture of Count D and Muraki from Yami no Matsuei. He's a sex therapist and "cures" his customers by having sex with them. XD You can find it here:
http://www.hochuuami.com/downloads.php
First one in the Individual ones.

[identity profile] delfeus.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
...there are 7 chapters of Sex Therapist, I believe, but only 5 translated so far.

[identity profile] dancing-moon.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
No, me neither really. But somehow, I could compare Sirius and Leon, you know? Whereas Remus and Leon are just o.0 So not on the same wavelenght

Oh, how I love inter-nerdyness among manga authors ^^ *runs away to read*

By the way, nice layout you have!
