*shrugs*

I can't think why my endorsement will make a difference, as [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies already has quite the reader list and reputation, but the lack of readers suggested by the scarcity of comments on the story No Need for the Niceties (Snape/Filch, Harry, NC-17) by [livejournal.com profile] vissy is karmic injustice, man. Raw and dirty, complex, perfectly voiced--I'm imploring people to give it a look. (There's Snape! And fellatio! No, I'm not above base tactics.)

See, normally, your recs make me run to read, and I'm actually thinking about reading this because you recced it but...

Um, see, Filch... as a sexual being... he sort of squicks the hell out of me. He grosses me out on a good day but the idea of him touching anyone or being touched by anyone in that way makes me want to hurl. I realise that's prolly just me but... you know, in case I don't read it, that would be why.

Yup, and I understand why more people aren't reading it. I'm not going to say I don't pick and choose by pairing myself, because of course I do. 'S why I read more slash than het and why my eyes boggle when I see "Anthony Goldstein/Seamus Finnegan." Nevertheless I'm sure I'm missing some boss stuff out there and if someone I trust says, "Go look at this Goldstein/Finnegan piece; it's something else," I might go give it a look.

Just so you know, your rec worked for me!

I was away from LJ most of the weekend and wasn't really paying much attention to my f'list, so...yeah, missed it entirely. And wow, that was wonderful. Perfectly voiced and an excellent sense of shared history. Thanks, A.

Yayyy! You know, I think there's a rule that Snape/Filch is likely to be well-written, just because the pairing demands someone who's thinking it would be interesting and can be made to appeal. Which implies at least a little sophistication.

*waits to be linked to some really puerile Snape/Filch*

Isn't the characterization terrific? I liked how Filch had the same reaction to Harry as Snape does, associating him with his troublemaking father.

From: [identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com
Don't get me wrong, the fic's very well written. There's no question about that. In fact, I probably would have recced it myself, but this line...

He primed Severus up smartly, skinning his prick until his glistening knob peeked out, just begging to be suckled; he was rank with a day's worth of cheese, and there was nothing Argus liked better than to lick his lad clean.

...was a bit more than I wanted to read.

Oh! Yes, I don't know why but somehow I'm always drawn to the grotty side of smut. Actually, I know how the cheese thing came up in this case - while writing the fic I'd been reading This Universe of Men, a collection of SF gay smut short stories, and by the time I reached the end I'd been thoroughly indoctrinated by the author's eroticization of cheese!

That was the first time I'd seen anyone use that particular graphic description in an erotic story, and there was something about the unabashed, filthy earthy description of that that had me grinning and saying, "Sure, I totally buy it," and not distressed by it at all. Because, you know, Filch. I'd probably flinch at it in other contexts but it worked here!

I know I have a Filch/Filth mindset (although I've always assumed we're supposed to equate his name with theft instead? maybe it's both) - anyhow, it's all wonderful fic fodder. I've been reading fanfic for 7-8 years now, and I'm still surprised by the way RL stuff hardly ever turns up (not that I'm adverse to pure, clean fantasy - I *adore* it). But where are the pubes stuck in the teeth, or the crud behind the balls? Fanfic is at heart a subversive activity, so I guess I can't help occasionally wanting to subvert it a little more.

Date: 2006-07-04 09:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com
Y'know what I think? You should make a point of writing crude RL stuff in HP fandom. There will be people who say, "Eurgh" as there always are (I know the people who like vanilla probably aren't lovin' my stories), but you'll have a name from people who say, "I love [livejournal.com profile] vissy's stuff, it's so real and masculine and filthy!" Filling niches is nice, y'know?

When I read this particular line, I was struck by how 'real' it was and how perfectly it fit Filch. You bring street cred with this kind of detail.

Now you've got me wondering what other character might also like cheese and have it be IC. Pettigrew, perhaps? :)

I know how less-popular pairings can get missed and sometimes people won't be urged if they're married to their pairing likes and dislikes (I'm not immune to this myself), but damn, I at least had to try! It was wonderful. I've trekked over to your journal to read your other HP stories! D'you think you'll write more in HP fandom?

I'm really slack as fic writers go - but I daresay there'll be more HP from me eventually. I've floated around on the fringes of this fandom for 5 years now, and I still can't read enough fic, so yeah...I don't think I'm going anywhere!

*g* a big thanks to you for reccing this. I wouldn't have found it otherwise and missed out on a great fic.
It's funny how squicks work...Filch in a sexual situation doesn't squick me at all. But Ron slash for example squicks me to the moon!

There was one line that made me shudder. I read on and tried to forget about it. Didn't work, that line's still on my mind (which explains my lack of appetite my colleagues wondered about *g*).
OMG...

*snicker* funny to see how predictable some of us are. Yeah, it's exactly "that" line.
But it wasn't the description per se that made me shudder, it was the instinctive translation my mind did, before I could even consciously stop myself. The German word somehow seems even more *yuck*...*shudders again*
