Anybody here read Tamora Pierce?

The Circle of Magic books? The latest one, The Will of the Empress?

She's got one of the Circle in a same-sex romance.

:squeeble!:

I think Empress showed up in November? Or something; anyway, I just got to it now. ^_^

I seem to like each one of her books better than the last; it's just the way it is!

Hmm. Good question! I think...I think I was less enthralled with watching Alanna hide her gender for two books, even though it's the sort of plot I usually do enjoy a lot. It just felt a little flat to me. Clearly I didn't dislike them too badly, as I went on with them. But I enjoyed the "Protector of the Small" books a LOT. All I can say is that it's as if her writing has more...depth, now? I liked Keladry's difficulties better than Alanna's. They seemed more original.

No, tell me more! What is this Bedlam Bard of which you speak?

...Oh, wait, I know what you mean! "Knight of Ghosts and Shadows," right? Yeah, that threesome blew my mind!

Yes, I have! There's a same-sex romance in that one, too, isn't there?

Yeah, I'm always delighted when something new comes out; her stuff is like crack! After reading the Alanna series several times as an 11-12 year old, I lost track for several years and realized she was still publishing around the end of the Daine series. I've been paying more attention since then. *g*

She also has a good anthology out with Josepha Sherman, called Young Warriors. Her own story in the collection is about the girl who becomes the Shang Unicorn referenced in the Alanna series. I quite liked it. I think her new series is supposed to be set in the Tortal of several hundred years back, about a girl who works for the Lord Provost. Sounds very cool.

Oh, I like Josepha Sherman! I remember a short story by her some years ago...

I think she's one of those authors who does a lot of short story/ anthology work. I want to say she's been in a couple of MZB's Sword and Sorceress collections.

BTW, your icon cracks me up.

This may seem a little random, but I saw your name (Amanuensis) in Song of Solomon... yesterday. We're reading it in my Literature class, and I proceeded to circle it vigorously with many exclamations and a big smilie. Just made me happy to see your name in the best book I've ever read, lol..

I read it! ^_^ Hee. Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors - and Will of the Empress made me have a major 'squee' moment when Daja got involved with another girl. I was grinning like a loon and rooting for them the entire time I was reading the book, lol.

Omigod, you have no idea how fabulous that feels, to hear that. Yeah, if the discussion aided others to say, "Hey, I'm like that, too, so that means that's OKAY!", then, like, wow, my purpose on earth has been fulfilled. :D

(And you are SO talented! I love your art!)

I was just hoping it wouldn't turn out to be a romance that had been set up by the Empress, y'know? 'Cos that would have been so MEAN. *is big wuss*

She originally had Alanna's quartet (SotL) in one big adult novel, I believe. If I remember correctly, Jon and Alanna ended up together in that one.
But then she rewrote it and split it. Yay.

I really want to read the adult novel, but I believe it's out of print. ):.

Unf.
Randomly in one of my H/D bursts, hence why I'm at your journal.
But.. I'm so happy that you read TP.

I first read the SotL when I was around.. 9? Whoa, 7 years, please. D: Ever since that, I've loved everything else and devoured the rest of her books. XD

At the beginning, Alanna's quartet was my favourite, and the Circle wasn't too great in my opinion. But since I'm older now, I still like Alanna's quartet, but I must admit that I've got such a soft spot for the Circle. They're more.. Real and amazing than the other series/realm, and I really want to be an ambient mage. *dies*. XD

But, seriously. I admire her works and rereading 'The Will of the Empress' right now. :D. I'm so SAD that this is her last book in that world (Quote from the back: "This sweeping saga is the final in the Circle series", but I hope it's wrong. D:), minus some side stories later on.

*rambles* And I've got to admit.. Aly's probably my least favourite. XD Because she seems so Mary Sueish.

Do you know the name of the adult novel? I would go looking for it in out-of-print sites!

Does it say that this is the last, really? I didn't see that! Yeah, that makes me sad.

You liked cold fire? I thought it was the worst of her books! But then, I've always like the Tortall series better than the Circle of Magic. Hey, it's just my opinion. Don't shoot me for it.

Nope, wouldn't shoot ya! It's all opinion. ^_^
