For those of you who said I'd love Firefly?

You were right. Oh! I just watched the pilot this weekend--how can I not love a story where the main character won't shoot an unarmed man, will shoot one who's armed and threatening another without a second thought because there isn't time to argue, won't stand to hear religious claptrap at his table (it's his table, dammit), has a Josselin/Phedre relationship goin' on, and isn't offended that some of his crew would sell him out if the price were high enough?

Actually the show sold itself to me as soon as the salvage-team-in-space blew a ship's hatch with explosives...and it was soundless. And the ships don't go WHOOSH! Migod, I think that's the first television or film since 2001 I've seen to do that. I was open-mouthed with joy.

And that's the best "yes we really killed off this beloved character no wait ha ha we didn't" I can remember. Those usually piss me off and I was laughing like a loon over this one. Whedon, I'm pwned.

Now I'm torn between watching all of these as quickly as I can so that I can see Serenity right away versus parceling them out nice and slow.

It's impossible to parcel them out. You might decide that that's what you're gonna do, but I predict that you'll have watched them all at least once by this time next week, at the latest... :-P

What I want most right now is to watch the pilot AGAIN. Ooh, it was so cool!

Watch them all as fast as possible, then watch 'em again after you've seen Serenity. Or before. Or three times . . .

Watch The Train Job. It was the replacement pilot, and the scene with the burly guy in front of the engine....you'll know it when you see it...that's what sold me on the show.

I'd be willing to bet money that I can guess which episode will be your Very Favorite, though. (Heart of Gold. Let me know if I'm right!)

*blinks* Okay, if you say so! Is it the second episode on the DVDs or what? It sounds familiar and I've only looked closely at the first DVD's case.

It's a hazard of mentioning Firefly near any Browncoat anywhere ;)

I shall try to go into that one with no expectations so that I am not disappointed. ^_^

Dude. Watch 'em all and then watch 'em again. And watch the outtakes on "Our Mrs. Reynolds" for confirmation of Joss's shipping preferences. *snerk*

And then curse Fox for cancelling it, but love on Paramount for greenlighting the movie.

It should be the next one after the pilot, so just keep on going. *glee*

I find it utterly impossible to have a favorite episode, because they all have moments.

River is my favorite character, but oh man, the things Jayne says...

Sit yourself down and have a gorram marathon. You won't be sorry.

Oh, I'm glad you liked it! Firefly is one of my favoritest things ever. It's so shiny! Reasons to watch them fast: Train Job, Ariel, and Objects is Space. Reasons to slow it down: There's still only thirteen. ^^

Firefly is quite possibly the best thing ever. I don't think you'll be able to watch them nice and slow. Just quickly and over and over again. I've had my dvds since they were releaed and have subsequently worn them out. There isn't one character on the show that isn't completely fascinating in some way.

What -- you mean somebody recognizes that No Air = No Sound? Wonderful!

I second that remark. They're like peanuts/popcorn/m&ms/goodie of choice. It's real hard to watch just one.

Just enjoy 'em -- then you can go back with commentary tracks and sense of history and look for the nuance.

Oh, btw, don't bother with the comic book miniseries that came out allegedly to bridge the gap between TV series and movie. Pretty cover art, but the story is so not worth it.

BTW, any favrit characters yet?

Whee! Another convert! Firefly is like crack. Every single person I've shown them to is now the saddest sort of addict just waiting for their Serenity fix.

Watch 'em! You know you want to! ;)

::dances with joy::

Yey!Yey!

I think you should watch them all in a row, with breaks ONLY BETWEEN episodes to do inconsequential, non-Firefly related things like going to the bathroom and feeding your poor, beleaguered human body...

Wait, that's what I did...

And the slash is great. Simon is just too easy. In one episode, Mal says he has "pretty hands", "lily-white skin" and is "pasty all over".

I know. Too easy.

(If you're wondering how he knows that Simon is pasty all over, just leave it up to your imagination. :D

I think my favorite episode is "Out of Gas"-- after showing friends the pilot, I'll usually skip ahead to that one, because it has a lot of history in it. Plus, engine sex.

Now me, I'm just panting after Zoe, is all. She'd break me, and I swear I'd die grinnin!

Though there's a lot to be said for Captian Tightpants too...
