Just in case anyone's reading this, my experience so far reading Half-Blood Prince is ever so much nicer than the "quick, whip through it so that you can get back to the fandom" event that OotP was. [livejournal.com profile] hbp_chapters is full of clever and squeebly and critical discussion that so far appears to be spoiler-free--I haven't found any myself and no one's emailed me as mod to tell me of any--and I find myself lingering over each chapter of the book, forming my thoughts and reading those of others, and even managing to have brief exchanges with those who're concurrently lingering at the same chapter break that I am. These are thoughts that I wouldn't have made time to articulate were I rushing through, for the most part, and it's such an improvement over the last experience. I'm only on Chapter 5 and it's a delight not to have to rush it. Though I suspect I'll pick up the pace some as the weekend wears on! Damn, shoulda taken Monday off.

I am so, so enjoying this. I read OotP during evenings at a work-related conference, with no net connect at all. I am not even getting through each chapter before I must go squee at [livejournal.com profile] hbp_chapters. There is so much there I love.

Thanks very much for creating the group!

Am tempted to rush through and catch up with you, I confess!! So that we can squee in near-real time on-community. Maybe I'll pick up my pace juuust a bit!

I agree... I am really excited to find out what happens next... I wasn't the last time, at all ^-^''

I was excited but it was such a "can't speak to ANYONE until I get through this" experience that this is so much more pleasant. I don't even care if I don't finish the book by the end of the day!

I finished it... But that's because I got a babysitter, so I would have the time... And I don't have that, tomorrow ^_~

Oooh that is good! :-) I had decided that this book, I would be a part of the collective reading, since I read OotP months after everyone else... and then the postal system makes that impossible. *sigh* Ah well...

I have read four chapters so far, and am awaiting a couple of more in my inbox. And I like this slow pace. Like you say, one can really mull things over... taste them, let them simmer and just experience the texture of them... Like Chapter 2. *g*

I hate rushing through books. And I can't believe that people are already writng fic with this new canon! O.O Your lovely community is great. Perfect idea.

Did the postal system screw you over? Oh, that bites. Hey, come to think of it, where's my UPS guy with my deluxe edition?

So glad you're still able to participate! Someone's emailing you the chapters, then?

Yeah they did... online bookshop sent the book yesterday, but we don't have mail delivery on Saturdays. And they only sent with 'normal' post service, not with UPS or DHL or something smart, because that would cost a lot more. Ah well. I was so disappointed when I realised that.

*nodnods* Yes, a friend, to whom I now owe so much chocolate and fic and hugs and whatnot for this, emails scans so I get the artwork on each chapter too. :-)

I just wanted to say a massive thank you for setting up [livejournal.com profile] hbp_chapters. It really focussed my mind on what I'd read and being able to compare notes with others was brilliant. No spoilers either. :D

I'm so happy! I'm really having a great time. The comparisons and speculations are what make it especially fabulous, with everyone saying, "Ooh, maybe Dumbledore this," and "Ooh, maybe Harry that," without any more info than what we've had so far in the book. Did you finish already? I'm still back on Ch. 7!

Heheh... *I'm* cool... *primps*

Thank you a million times for creating the community. :)

It was a blast going along with others, discussing and squeeing as we went. It'll be great to read over all your theories. (some of mine were totally off the mark, but that made me enjoy it more when I looked back to see how wrong I had been)

I know, I'm having so much fun reading the comments at hbp_chapters! I'm only through chapt 2 but I may have to re-read that before continuing just to go back and catch some of the things I missed that others have pointed out. :D

I almost didn't participate because I wasn't sure if it would work for me. Well, it has. In fact, it's enhanced the experience. :)

See, this is one of the incredibly fun things about fandom--the canon speculation and discussion--and since this is THE event of the last two years, why should we have to rush through it? *hugs you*

I finished HBP this morning and was thrilled! I've spent much of the afternoon going through the chapters to see what other people thought of it. I enjoyed reading this book ever so much more than the last because I had my best friend from college (who flew to my city) over, and we would stop after every two chapters and discuss. *grin* It seems so strange that HBP is actually out and that canon has been warped once again. I kept thinking that the book read like fanfiction. ~Harvest

I'm hearing so many people say they LOVE this book. I'm on Chapter 17 and right now I like it immensely but am not sure if I LOVE it. Which results in the people who have finished it saying "Go FINISH!!" So, OH, I'm hoping!

I totally agree with everyone here! And reading the comments and discussing is even more fun than reading the book. I'm getting incredibly addicted to that comm! My family already gave up on me for the weekend and decided I won't be life-worksafe until I finish (and I really ought to get some sleep soon, but I soo can't stop!).

Having all those wonderful people to talk to about the book is marvellous, especially as I wouldn't have anybody to squee over the book with where I live. What a shame there are only thirty chapters...

It's been GREAT having your input on the community--and, yes, the discussion is making the experience of reading the book even better!

And I wish there were fifty chapters, I do. I don't want it to be over!

It's the same here; with OotP, I really rushed through the last chapters, just to read what other people thought of things - I had to read them again afterwards, I missed a few things (well, I missed that Sirius really died, but part of that was denial :)).

I enjoy the book so much more, now that I can exchange first expressions, which would be very different if I just posted a general review after the book ended. After each chapter I get this burning desire to TALK TO SOMEONE, someone who is not my sister who hasn't read a single HP-book and has actually run out of our shared flat after my 10th attempt to tell her why Harry and Ginny are not meant to be ;).

And thanks to everybody in this group for being so nice to be with and not giving out a single spoiler so far; I never thought this would be so much fun!

Going to bed now (it's 2.42 a.m. where I live). I stop after Chapter 17, by the way - I hope you're still there when I am able to continue reading after work tomorrow...

I'm planning to leave at least a bit of the book for tomorrow; maybe a third, maybe a sixth! And I'm really, really impressed with how careful everyone's been not to spoil. So happy you are participating and I've loved sharing with comments with you especially!

I'd also like to second the thanks for creating the community. I've been on a sort of "bring myself into the fandom community instead of just lurking" kick recently, and while I wasn't sure if I'd like hearing other people's ideas after each chapter, I thought I'd go for it. I ended up commenting on almost every chapter, and even now I'm having fun going back and rereading each chapter's post, even thought I've finished the book.

Anyway, just to say, I'm having a fabulous time, so thanks!
