Just in case anyone's reading this, my experience so far reading Half-Blood Prince is ever so much nicer than the "quick, whip through it so that you can get back to the fandom" event that OotP was.
hbp_chapters is full of clever and squeebly and critical discussion that so far appears to be spoiler-free--I haven't found any myself and no one's emailed me as mod to tell me of any--and I find myself lingering over each chapter of the book, forming my thoughts and reading those of others, and even managing to have brief exchanges with those who're concurrently lingering at the same chapter break that I am. These are thoughts that I wouldn't have made time to articulate were I rushing through, for the most part, and it's such an improvement over the last experience. I'm only on Chapter 5 and it's a delight not to have to rush it. Though I suspect I'll pick up the pace some as the weekend wears on! Damn, shoulda taken Monday off.

Date: 2005-07-16 07:01 pm (UTC)I have read four chapters so far, and am awaiting a couple of more in my inbox. And I like this slow pace. Like you say, one can really mull things over... taste them, let them simmer and just experience the texture of them... Like Chapter 2. *g*
I hate rushing through books. And I can't believe that people are already writng fic with this new canon! O.O Your lovely community is great. Perfect idea.

Date: 2005-07-16 07:46 pm (UTC)Thank you a million times for creating the community. :)
It was a blast going along with others, discussing and squeeing as we went. It'll be great to read over all your theories. (some of mine were totally off the mark, but that made me enjoy it more when I looked back to see how wrong I had been)

Date: 2005-07-16 11:12 pm (UTC)Having all those wonderful people to talk to about the book is marvellous, especially as I wouldn't have anybody to squee over the book with where I live. What a shame there are only thirty chapters...

Date: 2005-07-17 12:45 am (UTC)I enjoy the book so much more, now that I can exchange first expressions, which would be very different if I just posted a general review after the book ended. After each chapter I get this burning desire to TALK TO SOMEONE, someone who is not my sister who hasn't read a single HP-book and has actually run out of our shared flat after my 10th attempt to tell her why Harry and Ginny are not meant to be ;).
And thanks to everybody in this group for being so nice to be with and not giving out a single spoiler so far; I never thought this would be so much fun!
Going to bed now (it's 2.42 a.m. where I live). I stop after Chapter 17, by the way - I hope you're still there when I am able to continue reading after work tomorrow...
