[livejournal.com profile] hbp_chapters
A Chapter-by-chapter Discussion Group for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

For those who would like to discuss HBP as they go without rushing through the book! (Well, relatively speaking.)

[livejournal.com profile] hbp_chapters is designed to promote discussion for each chapter, while avoiding spoilers for any subsequent chapters. To this end, I implore you to read the User Info before joining the community. Posts will not be locked, but only members will be able to make comments.

Presently there are 40 posts for 40 potential chapters. I suspect this will be more than are needed, so, once I know for certain how many chapters there are, I'll delete the unnecessary posts.

If there are any questions, please comment here. There is also a question post on the community, but you must be a member before you can comment there. (I am gladly soliciting any suggestions for rewrites of the User Info if people think anything is unclear.)

I just hope it's clear. I want it to stay as spoiler-free as possible, or I'll have angry people on my hands! (Me one of them!)

Wow, thanks for starting that community! I'm going to have two very difficult exams in the period July - September, and while I don't believe that isolating myself from my favourite activities would help me by my study process, it was clear to me that I wouldn't be able to swallow the entire book at once like I did with OotP. This community is a great idea and the perfect solution for me!

I so hope it works out the way I want it to--without accidental spoilers, I mean!

This is a great idea. What usually happens when I read a new Harry Potter book is that I finish the book in one sitting and subsequently gloss over all the critical little details and clues that JKR hides in the book until she reveals them at the end and I go *headdeskfacepalm* for not having realized the clues earlier on.

Yeah. I probably won't be posting as I read, since the computer is not at my apartment, but I want to read what people have to say.

Yay you! (And btw, gmail doesn't crash in Firefox, so, I may decide to use a Firefox window for the gmail and use that addy after all--we'll see!)

YAY! I'd totally forgotten you were planning this so now I'm extra excited :D

I agree with what Myra said on the question post though: it would be nice to have the chapter posts ascending with ch1 on the first page of the community (right after the question post) with following chapters going down the page rather than having ch40 at the top. It would also be cool if you did the custom override thinger and just had all 41 posts on the same page, but now that's just me being picky. :P heh.

Oh! Where is this custom override thingy? It sounds very useful!

Just to let you know, today is [livejournal.com profile] tarie's "24 Hours of Lj Friending Bravado", and therefore I am friending you because I tend to be a dreadful lurker.

Aw, I don't think lurkers are "dreadful," they just are happy to watch! Welcome aboard, though! And I like your username. 'S cute.

Plus, I heard I got money off on my preorder today, which is more good news.

Right, I'm joining with the hope that commenting on the book as I read it will make me read it more slowly and make the experience more enjoyable. I can only hope people will behave and not spoil... usually I would stay well away from the internet until I've read and digested it... but I trust you, and now that I've been lurking in livejournal for some time I think discussing the book with you people would be the best!

Like I say, lurkers are just fandom members who are happy to let others do the talking! And being an ex-lurker is an honorable profession too. ^_^

I joined. Weehee!

This is how obsessed I am; I went round all the stores in town to see how much they were planning to sell the book for, and what time they would open on that day. I now have decided which shop I'm buying it from and the earliest possible times I can get there, depending on what shift I am on that day.
Can you tell I'm not getting enough mental stimulation?

After saying this was a great idea and I wanted to join, and even thinking about maybe setting up a copycat comm for our local HP group, I've decided the safest thing to do is to stay off of the web until I've finished the book. I'm going to try to read it slowly, and all it takes is one post, intentional or not, and a surprise is gone. Like the book "reviewer" who mentioned that Mrs. Figg was a squib -- that would have been fun to find out on my own.

Although I'd love to read through all the posts once I've finished! Good luck, and may no trolls darken your virtual doors!

I completely understand. If this works the way I'm hoping, it'll be sublime--if it messes things up, though, I'm never gonna risk it again. The risk is significant, but I'm hoping those who have joined have the same vested interest.
