Gift Drabble! "Short Stories," H/L, 500 Words

Squee! [livejournal.com profile] notuilion just showed up one day and said, "Here, since you were whimpering that you didn't have time, here are all your KR drabbles, all coded and ready for upload to your website." !!!!!!!!

So, dear [livejournal.com profile] notuilion, I offered you a drabble as thanks; you said, "I like Lucius," so I went to this week's Dictionary Drabble on Beloved Enemies. I went for a sort of abstract version of the word's definition. Hope you like!

The word:
florilegium: a collection of excerpts; an anthology of short pieces.

Title: Short Stories. 500 words. Harry/Lucius.

Ten objects on a table.

Lucius does not quite hold his breath as the boy stares at them. It looks so very like the memory game of old. And oh, it is a memory game, but nothing like the one most are familiar with.

He does not dare to look at Voldemort as Potter touches the first item.

A white owl feather.

--"Consider it a birthday present, child," says Lucius Malfoy, smiling as Harry takes the owl's cage from him, too overcome to speak--

A remembrall.

--"Father thinks you'd make a fine Seeker," says Draco Malfoy, tossing it in the air. "Go on, give it a try!" Harry's best friend gives the glass sphere a healthy throw, and Harry is already off after it--

A thick emerald green jumper.

--"these wet things off you before you freeze..." and strong hands are pulling the rain-soaked jumper over Harry's head, and wrap a throw about his shoulders, still warm from the hearth--

A water-warped black book with a ragged hole through the middle.

--"can try again some other day, Harry." Lucius puts the ruined book upon the small table next to his armchair, and draws Harry onto his lap--

Splinters from a broomstick.

--"never mind what it cost me," Harry says fiercely, refusing to be moved from Lucius's hospital bedside. "I got you out of there and you're going to be all right and that's what matters"--

A square of worn parchment with nothing written upon it.

--Harry bends low, and whispers, "The Dark Lord will rise again," and the blank parchment becomes a map--

An empty butterbeer bottle.

--"enough of that for one night," Lucius says, but he's smiling, and Harry says, "Haven't either," and he's never felt so bold as he leans in close to the older man--

A tiny gold hourglass on a chain.

--"can't have you losing either sleep or study time to come here at night, now can I?" says Lucius, and Harry sits up, letting the sheet fall to his waist as he reaches for it--

A golden egg.

--"how to open it, then take what's inside and put it on. And wait for me." Lucius leans closer. "Naked, of course. And don't you dare touch yourself." Harry shivers--

A long, thin black quill with an unusually sharp point.

--on his thigh, right there, not more than an inch from his cock, and Harry doesn't know whether it will be the point or the feather edge this time, and it doesn't matter, as long as Lucius doesn't stop, doesn't stop, doesn't stop--

Harry looks up from the table, and moves around it to stand before Lucius.

Touches his shoulder lightly and kisses him. "I've missed you. When did I get here? I can't quite remember."

Voldemort chuckles. "Nicely done, my friend. Very well, you may keep him."

Potter's head tucked comfortably under his chin, Lucius smiles.

Oh, evil. And so warpedly good. I usually hate Harry/Lucius, but this is so... elegant!

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thrilled you got elegance out of this short bunch of words! Thank you so.

[identity profile] ygrane.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
This is fantastic. So deliciously evil. It makes me want more from this universe.

Thank you!
^_^

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
There are a whole lot of little stories in there to be told, aren't there? Thank you!

[identity profile] maeglinyedi.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, wicked! All new memories for poor Harry.

"Nicely done, my friend. Very well, you may keep him."

Hmmmm! Methinks this drabble should become part of a series. ;-)

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Believe me, I need to see all the enslaved!Harry I can! It's tempting.

Thanks for sharing this

Lovely drabble! This is the kind of thing that makes remember why I entered the HP fandom. Lately, there haven't been much of those fics. At least not where I can find them.

Re: Thanks for sharing this

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww! Well, the people on my friendslist write a whole lot of beautiful stuff. Try them! I'm always delighted by what they do! (And thank you!)

[identity profile] satanbaker.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
My GOD! Ama, you are god. Or a Goddess. Maybe the Goddess of Fic? *ponder* That was..absolutely brilliant, a memory game... You know, I think that'd actually be a really neat, long-haul fic..or maybe not, it is rather nice just as is, short but bittersweet.

P.S. Have you ever listened to Linkin Park's album Meteora? It *is* the D/H anthem. Really.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
*blushes* You are too nice. So glad you liked! Thank you!

Ohhhhhhhh, I am in awed adoration. I have never ever liked Harry/Lucius until now. I love the way you used items that all HP fans know, and have significant meanings, and you changed them into something else and ...equally fitting.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yippee! Convert to the Harry/Lucius 'ship, ahoy! ^_^ Y'made me very happy. Thank you!

Gina told me that you posted this on LJ, 'cause I was lamenting the fact that you weren't in #knockturn for me to smooch you silly for this.

I honestly didn't get it at first (I blame a sleepless night) but I think I stopped breathing after the remembrall.

"I've missed you. When did I get here? I can't quite remember."
I love the innocence there...and yet...gah!

Great job on this! I agree, this sounds like the beginning of a beautiful series!

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! *smooches you* I went looking for you to smooch in KR but you'd gone, sigh. So glad you liked!

[identity profile] fiendling.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
i really love how harry got new memories. I'd never thought about a new memory type spell. and what he now remembers... hurhur

especially like how it's kind of him instead of ginny that found the book, and the map appears
those scenes make harry seem like such a sweet man :P, well except for maybe that sharp pointed quill..

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Even when I abuse my Harry, I love him. *huggles Harry* Thank you so much!

*grin* Nice.

*tips your head back to clear airway* Ooh, thank you so much!

[identity profile] loony-moony.livejournal.com 2003-12-12 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god. I just read this over the HarryxLucius group email, and my blood just chilled. It was the sort of fic where you think "oh! it's an AU", but only in the beginning, because this fic could not be further than an AU. GAH.

You know, it might just be me, but I still find it to be OOC when Voldemort lets Harry stay alive when he's finally in his clutches. I know he didthings of similar nature in the books, but it was, you know, just the tormenting before the execution. After OotP, it makes me label this plot twist as an AU one.

But it's probably just me. ;D

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll tell you: I'm okay using the logic of, "Voldie's trying to get this prophecy; he needs to know what the prophecy says about Potter; he's not just going to kill the kid off until he knows whether he has another part to play." I know he tried to off him at the end of OotP but that was more an in-anger thing, more a this-will-devastate-Dumbledore thing. At least that's the way I'm playing it. For fanfiction, anyway.

OMG, I love your Harry/Lucius. Poor Harry, being kept as a pet. It's just so evil.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
More than evil, it's EBIL. *snuggles pet!Harry* Thank you!

Wah. I love the interweaving of the canon items and the memories and the EVIL and the Harry/Lucius and the wah.

Why is it that your fics always destroy my English and leave my babbling badly punctuated nonsense? lol.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggles madly* No, I got it! It's so endearing and I love and thank you.

Oh, very nice indeed. Such a neat little twist on the usual Harry/Lucius. Brilliant idea for the plot, with the mini flashbacks, all of them almost, but not quite a story unto itself. Lovely job.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep saying Harry/Lucius shouldn't be easy, hee! Thank you muchly.

I just read this on Beloved Enemies, and decided to cocme over here to post my review, since I can't very well put it there.

Oh, that’s beautiful! A marvellous piece of mind-bending. How fortunate for Lucius (and probably for Harry too) that Voldemort kept his word, at the end.

I do wonder about the map – Draco could have told his father about the Remembrall (if not too ashamed, but of course the information could have been dragged out of him), but the map? Barty jnr knew, but he wouldn’t have told Lucius, or any currently free Death Eater, surely. Might have told Voldemort of course…

I love the final ‘story’, the quill, distorting Umbridge’s use of it – wonderful, that! confirming the consensual BDSM relationship.

And the incidents you’ve added yourself, and left us to imagine the details of: the rescue, so maddeningly vague (write it! write it!); the butterbeer bottle, its contents inciting Harry to make his own advances; the present of (it sounds like) a cock-ring, with its intimations of domination/submission, later confirmed – and in an Easter egg (maybe), how beautifully baroque and removed from Harry’s real world! the time-turner (though how would Lucius know that had any kind of significance for Harry? But what the hell, I love it!) – all so inventive, so satisfying.

Did I say I love it?

I do hope Lucius is nice to his new pet; I’m soft like that.

Leni

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You are so very clever-eyed, noting about the objects about which Lucius could not know! I went through this at first trying to keep that in mind--then decided that it was unlikely that Lucius would work without having a Legilimens involved somehow. So that was my logic.

Oh, yes, of course Lucius will be nice to his pet. Have no fears; I'm like that too.

Mmmwah. Thank you so much for this. It means a LOT.

*hugs you* Oh, I truly hope you liked it! I remembered that you had said you liked his elegance and so I tried to have that in mind when I chose a plot. Your wonderfulness in doing that lovely random act of kindness needed to be rewarded, and I am still SO grateful!

Oh, brilliant! I love how you work with the layers of meaning, what we know from canon being unsaid but understood as the necessary contrast to make the connection in our minds as to what exactly is going on here.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2003-12-13 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I really had to go through every darn book to find enough items, hee! This one took a lot of research, actually. But it was a gift so that just makes it more *speshul.* (And to think, I knew it was going to be only 500 words but the first line was originally "Twelve objects on a table." What was I thinking?)
