Honestly, I found Cross to be a far more human and complex element than Bourne ever was. I felt he acted more, and kicked ass less, and I felt that was a godamned improvement over the previous strain. You could see his conscience -- his intact conscience -- all over the place. His questions in the cabin, his anger at Marta's willful ignorance, his flashbacks, all of it. You could tell that he'd always had heart, even if he hadn't always had the rest of it.
And that's what knocked this upward for me. Well, that, and the way they left the slash door open for the fans. That was good too.
