And nobody had cheezburgers, either.

Do you know how rare it is that a stray mountain cat wanders near your bus? And the opportunity to yell, "JESUS CHRIST IT'S A LION GET IN THE CAR" presents itself? Alas, even rarer are the chances that anyone in your group will even hear you because they're all squeaking and leaping into the bus, much less that you'll be with a group who will get the reference. Another opportunity of the universe lost.

There's been a round of discussion about feedback and comments going about LJ; based on one of the questions of comment etiquette I want to say that anytime anyone wants to make a comment on my journal that's not addressed to me but is aimed at another commenter, IT'S FINE. You can:
-pop by to talk to someone you haven't spoken with in a while, or
-discuss the point a commenter makes, or
-go off on a tangent, or
-just say, "Nice icon!" or
-make plans for the weekend with each other,
it's all good. Be my guest, have a good time, don't worry about whether the comment is addressed directly at me if you want to comment. Have fun.

Can I steal this? It says exactly what I want to say. Why oh why with teh drama. ALL THE FRIGGING TIME? I ask you!

Actually it's been rather civil! But some people have suggested that commenting to another commenter without first addressing one to the poster is less than etiquette. I know that I'm conscious of it when I have the impulse on other journals, but I wanted to let others know it doesn't bother me here. And yes, of course you can steal it! ^_^

That's because you're a wonderful and sensible creature and we all love you dearly for it! :)

I don't know, I think that Amy's kind of a twerp sometimes.

Oh, and I love your icon! Want to get together this weekend?

Yeah, but only when she posts weird music videos I don't like at first sight and then watch a billion times over later.

If you're up for a really long and fast trip, sure!

And did you know that seagulls hop very rapidly from one leg to the other when digging for worms in the grass?

Or it could be that I just want MILLIONS OF COMMENTS on my journal, to make people think it is the Place To Be! Bwah ha ha ha!

Mountain lion!

That's scary but cool. The most intimidating wild thing I've ever seen is a skunk. And if you had it together enough to say that, then you have a seriously level head.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I was laughing like a loon, thinking, "DAMMIT, no one will get this!" It was clearly not interested in stalking the bus or its inhabitants, so, it was easy to see the funny side.

[identity profile] ishafel.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The other day there was a state trooper in front of me at Panera. When he placed his order and the guy repeated it for the kitchen, he added, "It's for a COP!" Sadly I think I was the only one who got it--at least the only one who laughed.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, pooh, I don't get it either! I am clearly not one of the cool kids.

[identity profile] ishafel.livejournal.com 2010-03-14 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, not all. The fact that you don't get it makes you cooler than me :) It's from a movie called Super Troopers, which is either hysterically funny or just lame depending on your taste.

[identity profile] inamac.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
And there was I about to blog about meeting a fox in the woods. Damn. Trumped again.

I treat my LJ as I would the local pub - if people want to talk among themselves - that's fine (but I reserve the right to kibitz).

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! As the bartender, you have the right to jump into any conversation.

(Post about the fox! I wanna hear!)

I am utterly envious of your opportunity to yell JCIALGITC! I have never yet seen a mountain lion in the wild although I have seen their footprints and scat all over the place.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it tragic when these opportunities present themselves and are just wasted on the masses?

[identity profile] sahiya.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Comment etiquette is interesting. I am mellow, unless one flister insults another flister in my journal. This has happened before, and I find it to be very poor form!

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Insults are a whole different breed of comment, I agree. Of course, they could be reeeeeally creative ones

Oh god, really? Yet another "srs bsns" epic span level bit of discussion? Sigh.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, no! It's been quite civil and meant in cheerful spirit. "How not to give offense when commenting/feedbacking." But I don't get put out by intracomment conversations and didn't want people to think that's everyone's rule.

.... *snore* sorry, I got to that and suffered instantaneous narcolepsy. God, people in fandom will find any excuse for prescriptive wank, won't they.

I like your wise words of wiseness and will steal them if the need arises.

Oh, and Hi, btw! :D

*scampers back to watching the cricket and the hockey*

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2010-03-14 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's actually been a civil discussion but a number have people have expressed unhappiness about tangent comments; I just thought I'd point out that at least a subset of us (subset of one, if need be) don't mind them.

(Yay Axe Cop icon!)

[identity profile] fabularasa.livejournal.com 2010-03-14 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so, scrubbing my eyeballs now because of course I clicked on the link, and of course at the bottom of that I clicked on the footage of ACTUAL MAN GETTING EATEN BY LIONS IN FRONT OF HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN, and I'm pretty sure that if I believed in hell I would have to go to it for watching that. Augh.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2010-03-14 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy cripes, I didn't even know that was there! I'm not even going to the page to look at that, either. Don't need that.

(Actually I think I saw that link and thought it was a joke vid or something. *shudder*)

We were at the mall Sunday to see Alice and I walked by the Talbot's and glanced in and thought of you and smiled.

They really are very pastel linen, aren't they?

I hate having to live in Talbot's style clothes, wishing I could wear sequins and fishnets instead!

I love that you made this post (the etiquette part, I mean). I sort of feel like these are all things that no one should need permission to do, but with some of the arguments I've seen lately, I guess better to make it extra clear that you don't mind off-topic conversations and the like.

Also, I realized today that I hadn't seen you post in awhile. Then I realized it's because I'm always logged in on this account these days, and I didn't have you on this account's friends list. So I added you. So there.

(This is [livejournal.com profile] nishizono by the way. In case you were wondering.)

There are so many people I think are on my flist and then somewhere I see their journal and the bar at the top asks me if I want to friend them, and I'm all, "WHA??" Happens SO MUCH. It's embarrassing.

And hi hi! &hearts
