Have I told you lately that I love you? Because I do, and this post and its comments totally show why!

It really wouldn't be sensible. I hate to have such a negative view on things, but it seems like-- 9 times out of 10-- those such people will just steal your stuff. (And I have to say, I volunteered at a shelter once, and most of those people have nicer clothes than me. So... yeah.)

It's one of those good ol' depressing tales of repression. My grandmother got pregnant as a teenager by a soldier during WWII and he...well, the official story is he died, but I think he really just abandoned her. Her parents arranged a trip to the country and passed the baby off as their own upon their return. A few years later my grandmother met a man abroad and decided to emigrate and get married, and it's a little sketchy whether her parents wouldn't let her take her daughter or if her new husband wouldn't let her bring her, but my grandmother crossed the ocean alone and the truth didn't come out until my great-grandmother was on her deathbed.

(Bad ass motherfucker.)

My 7-yr-old cousin's biological mother left, so she calls her grandmother "Mummy", because (in her words), that's who is being her Mummy. And my nieces and nephews call MY mother "Mum" because of an old kiddie confusion thing (If we call her mum, why can't they?)

And to echo [livejournal.com profile] gmth...of all the weird ass shit that goes down in this movie....THIS is what bugs you?!?

I love all the alternate theories everyone comes up with! I HAS A CLEVER FLIST. :D

But then of course we will all be turned into hideous beasts or snakes and toads will come out of our mouths AND THEN WE'LL BE SORRY.

To me "bamf" will always be the sound Nightcrawler makes when he teleports.

What if she's a foster mom, and has all these kids? And Chip is the youngest, so he's there...and the older kids are...I dunno, getting drunk on stolen champagne. Smoking pot out back while the adults cavort in the ballroom. Getting in on with the other maids. (There has to be more than one slutty feather duster!)

I'm all for non-traditional parenting; I just don't think Disney was thinking that far ahead. Darnit!

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-09-23 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, the convoluted family stories! Perhaps this is why I'm not interested in my own ancestry; it's too complicated. (Actually I know it's just because I don't care about anyone's family stories. I only like fiction. :D )

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-09-23 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
SLUTTY FEATHER DUSTERS FTW.

[identity profile] gaaak.livejournal.com 2009-09-23 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
As much as we wish....yeah. I hate Disney for all the hogwash (Disney and Harlequin ruined my life life!)....but I sekritly love their animated films. The older ones, mostly .

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-09-23 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
And now that I think about this Hallmark Hall of Fame will totally get a hold of this story if we let them. :D

Life life? Love life. I haven't had my coffee yet.

[identity profile] atdelphi.livejournal.com 2009-09-23 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs* I actually wish I knew more about my genealogy, but my family is the sort where I'm in the first generation to actually know and care what my grandparents' names are. But you're right - fiction is much more interesting, and usually much more satisfying.

White hair not because of age but due to teapot-transformation trauma.

I always wondered about the large numbers of generic 'personality-less' household objects. Were they just really boring people we didn't see at the end, or were they inanimate objects that just got swept up into the spell and then went back to sitting around when it ended?

[identity profile] melannen.livejournal.com 2009-09-23 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
I think I had kind of worked out this really tragic story where, like, the servants who were children at the time of the transformation didn't get older, because inanimate objects can't *grow*, but inanimate objects do *age*, so the adults kept getting older, while Chip had spent decades trapped as a small, increasingly damaged young boy and his mom grew elderly.

...I think these things through too hard.

(though given the screencap used in that macro, I'm more tempted to say "He's actually a very small, very disturbed 40-year-old." Which isn't entirely different from my original theory...)

[identity profile] elsajeni.livejournal.com 2009-09-23 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
So, I mentioned this to my husband on irc. Subsequent chatlog:

My favorite theory is "Duh, the feather duster had him out of wedlock and it was hushed up."
Then who is the daddy?
A soldier, passing through.
You sure? You sure it wasn't...THE PRINCE/BEAST?!
OH SHIT
That actually had not occurred to me and it's much sexier.
CHIP IS THE BASTARD HEIR TO THE THRONE
WHAT IF BELLE HAS CHILDREN
MURDER AND INTRIGUE!
(Quick! Go suggest this in the thread and receive praise!)
I'M ABOUT TO!

So, if you put names in angle brackets MYSTERIOUSLY THEY DON'T WORK.

[Elsajeni] My favorite is "Duh, the feather duster had him out of wedlock and it was hushed up."
[Husband] Then who is the daddy?
[Elsajeni] A soldier, passing through.
[Husband] You sure? You sure it wasn't...THE PRINCE/BEAST?!
[Elsajeni] OH SHIT
[Elsajeni] That actually had not occurred to me and it's much sexier.
[Husband] CHIP IS THE BASTARD HEIR TO THE THRONE
[Elsajeni] WHAT IF BELLE HAS CHILDREN
[Husband] MURDER AND INTRIGUE!
[Husband] (Quick! Go suggest this in the thread and receive praise!)
[Elsajeni] I'M ABOUT TO!

I support the theory of her being Chip's grandmother or at the very least his mother's (much) older sister.

(And OMG from this angle she looks like my aunt... well, if my aunt were 20 kilos heavier and at least 20 years older. Which means I'll end up looking like this if I don;t watch my diet again. *a bit freaked*)
