I had to Google it to get the real spelling.

Every time someone on mainstream television mentions "the Kardashians" my brain trigger wants to know when Star Trek got this new surge in popularity.

So true.

Now I have spent a moment wondering, and then deciding not, whether they had the reverse problem.

I decided not because they don't really strike me as likely fans of the genre.

I know! It's so obscure, I keep saying, "WHAT?"

[identity profile] aras-fixation.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"the Kardashians"

*bangs her head against the keyboard*

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
'm not even a Star Trek fan! But I keep double-taking.

[identity profile] amand-r.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Were you watching The Office? Because I just saw it in this week's episode, and the only thing that kept me from screaming was that Kelly said it.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
THAT WAS IT. That was the over-the-line trigger for this post! I was all, "Kelly's a Star Trek fan?...Ouf, I did it again."

[identity profile] amand-r.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but coming from her, that line was in character, at least.

I think the last two eps of that show have made me uneasy, from Jim's tuxedo gaffe to Pam walking out with Michael. I'm like, "Wot? Is this the last season?"

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The Office is the sole comedy I watch, I realized.

[identity profile] amand-r.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
....Mine too. Unless you count America's Next Top Model. Or, as [livejournal.com profile] joanwilder and I call it, America's Next Top Bitchfight.

[identity profile] thistlerose.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too! And the thing is, I know why the Kardassians are interesting; I still haven't figured out why I'm supposed to care abut Kardashians.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Reality shows aren't my thing, so, I'm probably not going to care ever.

[identity profile] eskimosatan.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be relieved to find out they were talking about a resurgence of Star Trek. I wonder if more people will make the connection, though, when the new Star Trek movie comes out.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Dunno; I think the Cardassians were a next gen thing? Or maybe a Voyager thing. Dunno; never got deeply enough into Star Trek.

Introduced in TNG, a primary focus in DS9, an occasional feature in VOY.

I had absolutely no idea what a Kardashian might be and had to look it up.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
And your world is no more rich because of it, heh. Next time I'll have something more delightful for the flist's amusement.

[identity profile] louistomlinson.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, this is so off-topic, but do you read the kuroshitsuji manga or watch the anime? I don't want to accidentally spoil you by asking stupid things. >

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I DO I DO BUT I HAVEN'T SEEN THE LAST EPISODE YET IT'S BEING UPLOADED WITH SUBS ON AARINFANTASY BUT IT'S NOT THERE YET OMIGOD DON'T SPOIL ME I'M DYIN' OVER HERE!

...that is, yes, I watch it. ^_^ Oh, god, my stomach's in knots waiting! I don't want to be spoiled!

[identity profile] louistomlinson.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you ever tried http://onemanga.com/kuroshitsuji ? They are always the fastest with new updates.

I just read the new chapter and OMG *censored*!!!

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I may start reading the manga now that the anime's over--I'm going to be going through withdrawal now!

I just saw the last episode. OMIGOD, OMIGOD, PERFECT.

[identity profile] gmth.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, we so share the same brain. This was my reaction at first, too.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep DOING it.

[identity profile] abusing-sarcasm.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
One of my friends was telling me that I should Google the PETA ad that one of the sisters did so we could discuss whether or not she looked like a man (answer: yes), and she said (out loud), "It's Chloe Kardashian." And I said, "Spelled with a 'K' I assume." She was boggled as to why I would assume it was spelled with a K. I told her that sometimes you can just smell these things a mile away...

:D
jamoche: Spock: That's illogical, you raving fucktard (Spock logic fail)

[personal profile] jamoche 2009-03-28 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, those are real people? From the ads and the title, I figured it was a sitcom.

(And yes, my first thought was Star Trek)

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I still don't really know who they are and couldn't care less.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, I assumed it was spelled with a C for the longest time!

[identity profile] ella-bane.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! But of course! I'm with you all the way. :-)

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I barely know the term! But stuff gets in your HEAD. :D

[identity profile] dbassassin.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
What the hell is a Kardashian? Or is this one of those things I probably don't want to know.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, you'll probably live a happier and equally rich life not knowing. ^_^

[identity profile] dbassassin.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Okey dokey.

*sticks hands in pockets. walks away, whistling*
