If you canon 'ship Harry/Hermione, this'll make you bounce up and down doing the "Wordy McWord" thing. If Harry/Hermione makes you feel icky, you probably will have a less irritated day if you don't look.

This essentially eliminates my need to finish my half-finished essay on the subject, since I think everything I was saying is included here (Hermione's expectations of being prefect with Harry, her matter-of-fact observations about his romantic feelings with Cho without any actual enthusiasm, the lack of a reader's bond with Ginny, etc.).

So all I'll do is tack on the two moments that clinched it for me: in response to Harry's spoken wondering if he's a rotten kisser, Hermione's response is, "Of course you're not." Which to me, is worlds away from the one-word-shorter, "Of course not," and is very telling. To be honest, Harry probably is a very rotten kisser at 15, and with no experience in the matter. And Hermione would know that. So the addition of "you're" speaks worlds to me about her feelings.

And in the Department of Mysteries, UK edition page 679, as the wall in the circular room begins rotating, it is Harry's arm Hermione grabs, fearful. This is not done because Hermione was next to Harry and not Ron; there is no mention of anyone's proximity to each other. Ron and Harry are both there. But she grabs Harry's.

It's a small thing. It "proves" the Harry/Hermione canon 'ship about as effectively as the fact that Artoo Detoo bumped Luke's arm in Cloud City when Luke drew back from revealing his position to Boba Fett "proved," according to a number of fanboys, that Boba Fett was Luke's real father. The audience often reads too much into small things.

But I can only call it as I feel it.

Didn't expect to be posting again so quickly, but have any of you SEEN this?

But a Sword, purports to be a WIP but this alone is enough to sustain me, by [livejournal.com profile] nicolae. Dumbledore/Young Riddle. NC-17, angsty chan, and oh, just...just one of the best portrayals of Tom Riddle that I've seen. I think I have a new OTP.

Am quite blown away.
