Non-spoilery Iron Man notes.

I saw Iron Man today. There's this moment, this image, right near the beginning, right? That I looked at and thought, "Holy s**t, I will need to write some serious slash for this film." And then? Like, every time those two characters were onscreen together? EVERY time? The slash freakin' wrote itself. There is no more left for me to do. Jeebus frak.

I loved the movie. Loved it to pieces. Any time the camera wasn't actually on Robert Downey, Jr.'s face, I wanted to insist they get right back to it, dammit. He's brilliant in this, makes the film a divine, natural piece of storytelling. And the man has the prettiest crow's-feet laugh lines about his eyes I've ever seen. Robert, Robert, do not be led down the path of Botox. Satan and his minions lurk for you in that wayward direction. And never shave the facial hair either. All pictures of him clean-shaven now look WRONG.

I can't I CAN'T. I can't watch biopics. --Okay, not every biopic is on my "never never" list, but most of them are. Biopics annoy me because they seem to use "But that's how it happened in real life" to be an excuse for violating all the rules of narrative structure. Characters who are introduced and disappear for no reason...no sense of purpose... Stuff that leaves me saying, "What? Why?"
