I swear, if Rose HAD gone into the void, the Doctor would have let go and gone in with her. You know it. He'd have gone in knowing he'd have found them a way out. Because he's the fucking DOCTOR.

Such a sad ending. But I'm awfully glad she didn't die. It worked.

*giggle* You know, I hadn't even thought of that, but you're so right. He wouldn't have let her go there alone. So Doctor. And I'm glad both that she didn't die and that she didn't choose to leave the Doctor. So although my heart is broken at the moment, it's an ending I can live with.

You have it exactly. They didn't choose to part but neither had to die. *sniffles*

Short answer: The Doctor and Rose saved the world but ended up trapped in separate universes between which even the Doctor and his TARDIS cannot travel. So they're parted forever.

(And part of the saving involved sending the bad guys into the Void, also known as Hell, into which Rose was almost pulled but she was saved and pulled into the parallel universe at the last second before it closed. And I maintain that the Doctor would've gone into the Void with her if she'd actually been pulled into it.)

Wow, that's a good way to get rid of her other than dying. :P

It's very Heloise and Abelard-ish, and a lot like a popular recent book series I don't want to speak of for fear of spoiling them for others. ^_^

Especially since he said going into the void was essentially going to hell, I can't believe he'd let her go alone.

I kept wondering about her dying since she said in both Army of Ghosts and here about her being dead, or the story of her death - but that was sneaky trick of theirs.

I knew that the whole "death" thing could very likely be worked around, so I didn't know what route they'd go.

It absolutely worked! I'm so sorry Rose is gone, but yeah...this is the best way it could have ended.

It's a very Heloise and Abelard ending, isn't it?

Well, except for the castration scene, of course.

And as Mickey's said, the Doctor throws "impossible" around a lot, but he's not always right about that. ^_^ I mean, obviously Rose ain't comin' back next season, but the story potential is there. Do you see what I mean? Not just fanfiction but in the way the Doctor Who canon is established?

Oh definitely. I mean, Sarah Jane was never supposed to be back and yet, there she was!

Exactly. It makes for a different kind of denial, in a fan's head, that she has to overcome. Saying, "Maybe he could find a loophole..." in a storyverse that's established the Doctor's canonically good at overcoming loopholes is better for a fan's hopes and feelings (and fanfiction, sure) that it could all come right again. As opposed to death, which is still surmountable in fiction but feels wrong to fight, somehow. Wronger, I guess. Sort of like why I didn't want to write "how they brought back Sirius" stories after OotP but instead just kind of ignored the death because I loved him too well and couldn't let canon interrupt my need to keep playing with him in fanfiction.

David Tennant crying completely undid me. I was just about mananaging until that point, with just the odd sniffle, but then I sobbed like a little kid. *sighs*

I also thought that (about Ten going into the void with her), partly because he would never let her go in alone, and partly because I'm not sure he could have lived with himself if he broke his word that he'd keep her safe (for a given meaning of 'safe', of course).

I know people have knocked DT's acting this series, but this episode was almost note-perfect the whole way through. Did you catch the look on his face as he saw Alt!Pete whisk Rose away to safety. Absolutely spot-on.

People have knocked Tennant's acting??? Okay, maybe they don't like his interp of the Doctor, I can imagine that, but his ACTING??? There's no pleasing some people.

I want to hug the Doctor. That episode has made me sniffly and oooh! what a woobie, I love him so.
And you're totally right, he would have gone with her and then become the king of hell and then gotten them both out.
