Damn, this has been a pain.

For those of you who thought you'd have heard more from me in the past two weeks-plus, I've had a glitch with my new laptop which has been kinda consuming. But now I've put the thing through all the tests that tech support can have me do (the final backup, erase and install, and software restore that took me NINE HOURS today was just oodles of fun, right) and have reached the "send it in for repair" stage, which is something of a relief. Out of my hands and on to theirs, and I can sit here with my penultimate computer and go back to playing. So I will try to catch up on missed emails and the like soon!

It sounds more like it was an iLemon than an iBook...

If it still doesn't work, definately make them give you a new one. Or threaten to switch to a Dell.

It happens! Can happen with any make computer. The thing I fear is that we'll get in a "We couldn't recreate the problem, so we replaced a bunch of stuff"/"I got it back and the problem is persisting"/"Okay, send it back again" cycle. Because I've had experience with hardware manufacturers that will do that until they exhaust you into living with the problem, the bastards.

Yeah, I know it happens with any of them. We had 3 Toshiba laptops and they all experienced cascading problems; the were in the shop more than we had them, which is why we did finally switch to Dells.

(and that icon is scary!)
