I know I'm fixated on the way she looked 10+ years ago, in Absolutely Fabulous, but am I the only one who read Tonks' first appearance in OotP and thought, "Jane Horrocks, when they cast this character. Definitely."?

[identity profile] tarie.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that was SO my first thought. And actually, before we 'met' Tonks, I thought she'd make a hilarious Trelawney. Just imagining her expressions behind those thick glasses gave me giggle-fits many nights.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
She's wonderfully versatile. I think my first conscious viewing of her was The Witches.

[identity profile] tarie.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you ever seen her in Little Voice? She's so amazing.

Ohhh, The Witches! I've not seen that in YEARS.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I never did see Little Voice! I see mostly fantasy, SF, and period costume pieces these days.

[identity profile] pinkfinity.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You should see it! There is Ewan in it!

[identity profile] mereol.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I am very sad. Has it really been ten years? Christ I'm old.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW. It's been, like, 13 since the show started. I can use excuses that I didn't see the show until it came to the U.S., but it's still a shock.

[identity profile] mereol.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Something sadder: Back to the Future (the first one) is celebrating its 20 year anniversary this year. 20 effin years.

[identity profile] stellahobbit.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
I was watching TV this afternoon and flicked over to 'The Karate Kid.'

Daniel was showing off his swanky banana-yellow car to his girlfriend and gave her the keys to drive, saying, 'C'mon, it's the eighties!'

*shakes head*

[identity profile] mereol.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Top Gun = released in 1986.
Tom Cruise = loser
Val Kilmer = still hot.

[identity profile] cluegirl.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. My. God.

Woman! Share the good crack, dammit!
*Agrees, but secretly, so nobody realizes what a freak she is.*

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I still think she'd be a terrific casting, especially as our Marauders-age actors are all a bit older than canon anyway. *eyes Rickman, thinks 'a bit, my eye' and harrumphs because who the feck cares, he's still hot as ever*

[identity profile] cluegirl.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
True, dat.

And you're right, she would be perfect. Absolutely perfect, and cute beyond belief.

[identity profile] pinkfinity.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but their being older than canon allows the casting of in-his-late-20s-Cillian Murphy as Regulus.

So that's good.

Wishful thinking. But good.

[identity profile] pinkfinity.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Very yes. But Anna Friel wants the job, so she can snog her spousal unit on screen. Mer.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
*goes to hunt pictures of Anna Friel*

[identity profile] pinkfinity.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
here (http://www.david-thewlis.com/photos/thumbnails.php?album=37)...

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* I suspect she'll do fine, like a lot of other actors. Make 'em up and it's all up to them, after that.

[identity profile] satanbaker.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh, not so much Nymphie... Luna though, yes, definitely!

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Too old, I fear. I wonder who they'll get for Luna? Almost certainly another unknown, I'm thinking.

[identity profile] satanbaker.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sadly. Or if not a complete and utter unknown, someone like Katie Leung (*hugs her*) who'd just been in stuff like commercials beforehand.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
NERFLE! Oh, yum, sigh.

However, I have the impression we'll never see Regulus cast.

[identity profile] thistlerose.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, she'd be great! I saw her in "Little Voice" and she was adorable.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
She shows up in a lot of voice-overs these days!

[identity profile] many-miles-away.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god I so totally had forgotten Jane Horrocks had played in AbFab!!!

But no. The very first person who popped into my head (instantly) when we were introduced to Tonks was the girl, unfortunately dead, who played Charlotte in 4 Weddings and a Funeral. Now I see her as the girl who had a cameo in Love, Actually, the one who played one of Billy Mack's managers, you know?

[identity profile] rikibeth.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
ME TOO about Scarlett! Actually that girl has a younger sister who is ALSO an actress so there's hope yet. That's DEFINITELY Tonks in my head.

[identity profile] many-miles-away.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to call myself stupid for calling her Charlotte instead of Scarlett, until I realized Charlotte was actually the actress's name. No idea I even knew it! XD

And I'm delighted to see I'm not the only one who thought that!

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
More IMDB'ing on the way...

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I can see why you thought that! I don't know what she looks like these days--I would have thought back then that she was too young but now she might be just right.

[identity profile] catherinecookmn.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Remember when Eddie was having that weird dream-hallucination in which Bubble had gone to some sort of work-therapy and came back as a totally competent, creative and hardworking employee? Freaked Eddie out big-time!

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, that was awesome. I loved every episode of Ab Fab.

[identity profile] moonlite-tryst.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Little Voice" is worth the watch. Brenda Blethyn is brilliant as the foul mouthed slutty mother and Michael Caine's turn as the slimy talent spotter is a treat. Ewan's cute but Jane Horrocks is definitely the star, she is incredible. Any news on who is cast to play Bellatrix yet? Rachel Weisz would get my vote.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I think Weisz is too young and pretty. Not that they can't get her looking haggard with makeup, but I'll bet it'll be someone older. There was a rumor about someone a few months back who looked exactly right, but I dunno what happened to that rumor.

[identity profile] moonlite-tryst.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
As long as it's not that (and I use the term loosely here) 'actress' Liz Hurley. *shudders*

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, it was someone else. Older. She looked just right!

Jane Horrocks

[identity profile] atalantapendrag.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
She was Nirvana Crane on the "Holoship" episode of Red Dwarf, also.

One of these days I gotta see that show, too.

If you were in Austin, I'd say come over; I have the first two seasons on DVD and scattered others on VHS.

[identity profile] lyttlelucyfer.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
Jane Horrocks is brilliant in everything she does. I wouldn't worry too much about her being too old for the part, either. In Little Voice she could have easily passed for 20ish. It's all in the body language, which is her real strength as an actress.

I used to have a ballet instructor who would have made a great Bellatrix. She scared the crap out of all of us and had a sort of gracelessly-aging-goth look about her. Although, actually, I think the woman who played Duckface in Four Weddings would be good. I saw her as Goneril in King Lear a few years ago and she was great at the whole evil bit.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
I remember who you're talking about. Am not running to IMDB to check her name because it's more fun this way. ^_^ And I can see what you mean. I don't see Bella as being young or glamorous!

[identity profile] bell-witch.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I think of Tonks as looking more like India Fisher.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2005-09-27 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
*googles her* Oh, hey, I can see that!

[identity profile] bell-witch.livejournal.com 2005-09-28 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
She's pretty/cute without being overly so, and she's got that distinctly English look about her. We'll probably end up with someone too good-looking as usual.
