Spammy but succinct and unspoilery.
Aug. 4th, 2005 07:28 amThose of you who read this earlier post of mine may recall that I compared HBP to The Sixth Sense--a story which has only one read, once you see the answer. So I'm mightily amused by the blurb for a television showing of The Sixth Sense in this past week's Entertainment Weekly:
The Sixth Sense (ABC, TV-14) Look, no matter how many times you watch it, you won't find any "flaws" or punch any "holes," and it's always gonna "work." Stop torturing yourself.
So, yeah. *points at blurb, points at HBP* That's what.

Date: 2005-08-04 01:27 pm (UTC)Okay, and maybe now I should actually go read DD's death, since I still haven't finished the book. I reached The Cave yesterday night, stopped and thought "Brain, you are too tired to deal with such a scene. Keep it for tomorrow." I think it's the longest it's taken me to read any book, ironically enough!

Date: 2005-08-04 01:42 pm (UTC)Also? Despite knowing someone was going to die in HBP *and* knowing (99.9%) that it was going to be Dumbledore *and* inadvertently reading a troll's post on snape_potter (4 hours before I bought the book) that said "Why do you people want to slash Harry with a murderer?"...I got to the scene where Snape's standing over Albus with a wand, and I still didn't know what was going to happen.
I swear, if you could take my ability to be in denial and bottle it, well...you'd have something really useless. *g*

Date: 2005-08-04 03:32 pm (UTC)I had clues on The Usual Suspects, but I wasn't completely sure. TUS is actually a film, to me, that isn't as "only can go one way" as TSS--the plot as Chazz Palmintieri's character presents it at the near-end, as he thinks it could have gone, does actually fit what we've seen. 'S not until he starts taking it one level deeper that it gets an additional, trickier read. Heh, I love it when that coffee cup hits the floor.
Also, my mom figured out The Sixth Sense almost right away. I'm glad the two of us saw that one separately!
