I didn't quite want to buy it, see...

Guess who moved up from number 80 on the library's reserve list for the book to 20, over the past few months?

Guess how many copies of the book the library system apparently has?

Yeah, wish me luck or laughter or whatever you like, I'm about to tackle it.

*lol* It's funny I knew what book you were talking about before I even finished reading the whole post.

Oh, hon. Etext or audio! Both are easily torrentable.

Nooooooo! Come back from the dark side before it's too laaaate!

I heard some girls in a book shop going "OMG IT'S THE BEST BOOK IN THE WORLD". I was so tempted to grab them and hit them with it. (Seriously, wtf vegetarian (yeah right) sparkling vampires??)

[identity profile] cesario.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
i can send you the e-text. seriously, it isn't worth actual effort.

LOL :-)

[identity profile] lotrwariorgodss.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, I barely made it past the first chapter I was laughing so hard. Have, er, fun...or something...! ;)

[identity profile] christwise.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
No, see, the physical book is much better. When you throw a computer against a wall it will probably break. :)

[identity profile] cesario.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
the thing about the e-text, though, is that when the existential horror of the thing's emergence in this plane of reality overwhelms you, you can edit it. Who's going to remember what the original line said after you've added "...and that was when Bella realized that Edward was a mutant alligator god from outer space"?

*laughs* I was going to say 'it's not that bad', but that would be telling a lie, so I won't. However, it does have a certain charm - and if Meyer can do one thing it's write UST - so put aside your brain, bring out your inner 13 year old, and you may find enjoyment :D

[identity profile] slumber.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I can send you my copy if you annotate it with lolnotes and then pass it along to someone else in need of a good laugh?

Speaking of being on library lists - you got me interested in the Count of Monte Cristo; so I reserved the unabridged audio version at my library several months ago.

It's 47 CDs...finally, it came in three weeks ago. I'm getting ready to listen, only to find out that there are TWO volumes to the CDs. They'd only sent me volume 2, starting at CD #19...I couldn't put Vol 1 on hold because it kept saying I already had it checked out.

I wasn't very happy - why in the world would they not keep the two volumes together! The library was able to put vol 1 on hold for me, but I won't get it for probably at least another month or two, by which time, I've already had to return vol 2.

I think I'm going to just give up! I might actually have to read the book (only 1200 pages).

Good luck with Twilight!

I didn't even want it to appear on my library patron record, so I read the first three when I was at a conference at a school whose library had them, and borrowed the last one from the bookstore where I work. They're disgustingly hard to look away from, I found. D:

Hope your brain doesn't explode!

[identity profile] neeteeus.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the books! I hope you enjoy them and become inspired to write lots of fic. :D I haven't actually looked for Twilight fiction yet, but that's because I'm always afraid of all the bad stuff you have to sift through to find the gold. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

[identity profile] dolorous-ett.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I've read the first one. It's neither as good as I hoped, nor as bad as I hoped, and there are a good many things about it that are decidedly odd... but the vampires do indeed sparkle, and drive a Volvo, which is compensation of a kind, I suppose...

[identity profile] marksykins.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Godspeed, Amy. :D

[identity profile] ariadneelda.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha. I keep hearing it's really bad but haven't been tempted to check it out. I hope you'll post a review of some sort. ;-)

[identity profile] inamac.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, the film makers are going to be so disapointed when they discover that nobody on this side of The Pond has heard of these books (let alone ordered copies for the libraries).

Please don't let it rot your brain - we need your talent unsullied.

[identity profile] puella-nerdii.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel as though I should be giving you some kind of gladiatorial salute here.

(I made it about eighty pages in before flinging it against the wall, hunting down summaries of the rest, and thanking every deity I could think of that I didn't actually read the one with the blank pages that show how meaningless Bella's life is without Edward or something. yeeeeah.)

[identity profile] ixchelmala.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be looking for le awesome fic that will pump some life and blood into this series.

Yeah, bad pun, but hey.

Let me know if you'd like my deconstruction of the basis of these vampires. You might giggle.

[identity profile] moggets.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly please don't bother they are bad - not obviously so at first which is what gets you the first chapter is ok (as far as I remember it is all a bit of a blur) and then you just find yourself reading for the sake of it. They are not evening interesting or exciting, just drawn out with no real drama - lots of whingeing and sulking though if that is your idea of fun.

[identity profile] ook.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha! I know which book you mean! I told a friend that I intended to at least listen to the audiobook for the first one and she went "WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?" She's read ALL of the books and hates the series. :D

[identity profile] persephone-blue.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard SO MANY mixed reviews. Some people like it, some people LOVE it, and others shrug their shoulders and go "meh."

I'm definitely curious to hear what you think! Will you post a review when you're done?

[identity profile] orpheus-samhain.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm curious about your opinion :)
