It really is a very interesting and clever film. Just a few days after its release there was fanfic for it on ff.net. I've found a huge Cloverfield message forum. The IMDB Cloverfield forum sucks but the FAQ and trivia for the film are kind of interesting. Evidently there is a ton of online journals and web sites that tied in to the viral marketing for the film.
And you know they're planning a sequel, right? Same director, writer and producer although JJ Abrams says that he doesn't want to do the same movie from a different camera -- he wants something different!
The scariest thing, IMO, is to realize that Clover (the monster) is just a BABY! O.o
