Torchwood Series 2 Finale Upsets Even Hitler

Someone took a 4-minute clip from the German film Downfall and made an effing hilarious subtitle track. Spoilers for Torchwood series 2, natch.

All three of these pictures (the second is not worksafe) are amazing, but the third? "The Last Waltz"? OH MY GOD.

WHY IS IT THAT I CANNOT DRAW. OH MY GOD.

So, if one disallows partial credit, the Entertainment Weekly "Ultimate Harry Potter Quiz" (this link only gives you a sample 12 questions; the rest are in the actual magazine) has a maximum score of 55, including bonus points, and I scored 47. I am not ashamed of this, as a couple of the canon questions are darned obscure and there are out-of-the-books-and-into-other-trivia questions as well. (The number of Oscar nominations certain Potter film actors have earned, for example. No partial credit given on that particular seven-parter, either!) I had a couple of lucky guesses, too. Any of the rest of you take it and want to discuss what tripped you up--or brag about your perfect score, you fanwhores, you--ring in, do.

Yay! A new Summary Executions from [livejournal.com profile] mctabby! Looky, we're up to number XLI now, isn't it grand. My take on them is here, here, here, and here. (It's been a while, I was eager!)

All you HP fans have been following the comic strip Big Top this week, haven't you? Here's the link to where it started on Monday.

Check out the first offering on threewishes.com's Sexy Halloween Costumes page--but don't get your hopes too high! All sizes are listed as out of stock.

Nice way to avoid copyright infringements, too. "Wizard Wanda" indeed.

Some nifty things in the HP fanart world:

[livejournal.com profile] naked_bee's entry in the [livejournal.com profile] snarry_olympics is something I don't see often in fanart: a photo shoot, and it's so cool. Dungeon and nekkidwounded!Harry and Snape with potion bottles, oh my! What's more, I pestered [livejournal.com profile] naked_bee for the story behind the shoot and the models, and she spilled! If you'd like to read all about how she recruited her husband (and made him shave his beard) and her neighbor colleague (who pretended to be shocked and offended), check out the thread here.

And [livejournal.com profile] pinkelephant42 has created the loveliest subtle piece of Harry/Draco fanart here. When I saw it, I thought it was, I dunno, a bird? Or a butterfly? And then I looked again. And fell in "omg!" love. And I loved it so I pestered (been pestering a lot, obviously) [livejournal.com profile] pinkelephant42 to set up a Café Press store for this piece, because, man, I totally want to flaunt this one to the mundanes. To know that they're looking at that thing and doing the "bird? Butterfly?" cocked-head thing and not know that there's HP slash right in their faces, man. And if you like it too, go pester her to add more stuff to the store!

*(Not nekkid, but not really worksafe, unless you want your work colleagues to know you're into it this deep)

Here's exactly what I don't have to courage to do with my doll creations--make beautiful pictorials like this. Partly because I don't work in Dollfies (which are so versatile), more because I admittedly haven't the photography or craftsman's skills. Snarry fans, go look, plus, don't miss this one. (Links came from her [livejournal.com profile] snarry_olympics intro post here; feedback her if you like!)

If you haven't seen [livejournal.com profile] lillithium's moody, near-black-and-white composition set of Hogwarts' Characters and Houses, you must go look! What she's done with these at-first-glance-simple portraits of Luna, Cedric, Draco, and Harry, weaving them into a theme, blows me away.

There will be no headlines in newspapers, but it's the end of an era all the same. [livejournal.com profile] epicyclical posted the last chapter of Draco Veritas today, third and last book of The Draco Trilogy.

I think a lot of HP fandom types can remember their first discovery of Cassandra Claire's stories in the same way that people remember where they were when they heard that man first walked on the moon, or when famous people died. Me, I found Cassie's A Season In Hell first off, early on in my discovery of HP fanfiction, back in late 2002. I remember I was on vacation and in a hotel, and read the thing cross-legged on my hotel bed, using dial-up and a hotel bible for a mouse wrist rest. I was writing my first HP fanfiction at the time--Other Chambers, Darker Secrets--and was poleaxed. Literally (as in, well, literally fell over, not literally hit with a poleaxe. Heh). Lay there across the garish hotel bedspread, breathing shallowly, wondering why on earth anyone should bother trying to write anything else after that. And I read Draco Dormiens the next day, and had to stop writing OC, DS for three days because I had to write fanfiction for her fanfiction before I could go on (that was Because of Who You Are--total fluff, but I was in LOVE, man). I'll never forget how sweet and gracious she was when I sent that story to her, asking her if she'd mind if I tried to archive it on restrictedsection.org.

Draco Dormiens, Draco Sinister, and Draco Veritas are, someone's calculated, almost one million words of fanfiction. The stories and characters within them mean almost as much to me as Rowling's series itself.

There's a big fat ache in the center of my chest for the end of this one. I'm sure I'll be having a cry soon.

*[livejournal.com profile] epicyclical is letting us know that at some future date her fanfiction may/will be removed from web archives, so those of you who want to read it should save copies now. Pdf files of the three parts of the Draco Trilogy (with pictures!) are available at the bottom of the DV epilogues page here.

Oh, my. Check out this dramatic Poser artwork by [livejournal.com profile] kamion, featuring an imagined Book 7 tableau of Harry, Lucius, Draco, Snape, and Voldemort. His/her other pieces are every bit as nifty!

[livejournal.com profile] eliathanis drew me delicious Ponyboy!Harry/Trainer!Draco for my story, Their Worse Than Killing Lust. To see it, you'll have to be a member of the community [livejournal.com profile] eliart (go here to join) because it's NC-17--or you could ask me to email it, I don't mind. Eee, ponyboy art! Go see and tell Elia she done good.

Those of you anticipating replies to emails or lj comments, betas, etc., it's all [livejournal.com profile] mctabby's fault. ^_^ (I had been planning to catch up this morning, really!) Summary Executions XXXVII is up, and I did a take on 'em here, here, and here.

Also, have finished all there is to be had of Battlestar Galactica on DVD. I'd have been cleverer if I'd thought, weeks ago, to begin recording reruns of the current stuff--second half of season two--off the SciFi channel, so that I could catch up, but it only occurred to me now. Reruns are already underway, in order, the next being Scar, which means I'll have a gap of four episodes. But! Yay for iTunes, which has all of the episodes available for $1.99 a pop. So I downloaded Resurrection Ship pt. 1 as a test, and it works great, so, yeah, I think it'll be worth the extra six bucks to catch up before next Friday. Hell, I might get impatient and decide not to lag behind on SciFi's rerun schedule, even.
